Installed brake light switch and car wont start E36

E36 328 Coupe. Had the brake light circuit failure coming up so I installed a new brake light switch, now car wont start. All check lights go off except battery and oil. Checked fuses. Fuse 31 blown. Put new one in and it blew staright away. Any ideas.

The next day. I noticed that the auxillary fan was going, so I took out the fuse for this (16) and put a new fuse in 31, and lo it started, so it must be a short circuit , any ideas where I should start looking.
