e38 2001 Battery drain

Recommended Posts

Hi guys any idea about the situation below -

*car struggles to start in short distance start stop situation.

*at times all of a sudden the engine will stop just when trying to reverse or coming off reverse gear

*car starts first click if it has been left sitting for 4 hours or more; for eg start beautifully first thing in the morning.

I think all above is battery related. correct me if im wrong

*in case you guys think a new battery is required, any ideas where to get the oem 800cca batteries from ?

*also can i just chuck the new battery in or do i need to code the car and the immobilizer and stuff like that ?

thanks in advance

What do you mean struggles to start? Does it crank OK but not fire? Or does it not crank?

I think you need to get it looked at by a BMW specialist - it could be any number of things. Could be battery related, or it could also be a failing starter motor, poor connection to the battery or another electrical gremlin (like the reverse interlock).

Not sure if these needed the computer being reset for a new battery or not - that 'function' might have been introduced on the later models.

As above - get it professionally checked, an auto sparky can do. As stated, could one of a few things. There is no point in guessing.
