prop1113 1 Report post Posted January 4, 2013 Lately I have been having a problem with the neutral/park safety switch in my 89 318i. To start it i have to nudge the shifter to the right (its an auto) to engage the switch and let the car start, today smoke came from under the console when i went into reverse. I have pulled the center console out and have discovered it comes from inside the switch has anyone had this problem before? do i need to replace it?
