E28 528ia - $600

Recommended Posts

Save “Princess†from the scrap heap.

Its time for her to go, Rego is on hold and needs a couple of minor things for a warrant. Headlights will need replacing or possibly a good thorough cleaning. Tyre condition is warrantable from memory. Its in the paddock where it has sat for over a year. The only bit of rust which I have been able to find is in the passenger door, none on the body/chassis that I am aware of.

The dream was to paint it with fence paint and do the time warp in it. Its like driving a time machine.

The 2.8l m30 engine coupled to the 4 speed steam roller auto make this E28 float along like a dream. Silky smooth gear changes which is very surprising. Don’t let her appearance put you off, I’m sure your girlfriend doesn’t look like a supermodel without makeup either (hence the idea of a paint brush and fence paint, she’ll be looking like a Southmall hooker in no time). She has a tow bar so you can tow caravans and oversized boats away on holiday and everyone will love you.

The windows wind down – electric, they even go back up again. No sunroof. This particular model couldn’t have the sunroof option because it goes too fast and it would rip the roof off its hinges, (that’s where all the paint went too, the speeds at which Princess travels makes the wind and any dust act like a sand blaster). Her performance is boosted by the installation of a Coby muffler. She has no radio, only the sound of the screams from the ho’s in the back seat (BYO Ho’s). The aircon keeps blowing a fuse but with the working electric windows you can ride along with your arm out the window and channel the air inside the car. The tan cloth interior is errrrm.. not pristine. Marty wanted the backseat because they are tidy but they will stay in the car. The front seats have seen a lot of bum action over the years.

Her service history is full and comprehensively unknown with the first 4 services being carried out at a fancy BMW dealership when she was new. There are stamps in the book to show this. After this she has been serviced at Kerikeri, Panguru and in uncle Hone’s driveway on scissor jacks. All six cylinders work and she purrs like a sewing machine.

In all honesty she could make an awesome little car if you just want a hack that you can spill your strawberry primo on the seats and just rub it in and not care about it. Engine and gearbox tick over like clockwork. Spend a couple of hours fixing the things for a warrant and off you go.

I simply do not have the time to do it.

$600 and she’s yours….. FOR EVER!

(please note there is a small dent in the bonnet, the lawn mower attacked it).
