e38 Driver seat/steering wheel adjustment buttons (no response)

Recommended Posts

Hey all..

just got a crank seal leak fixed last week on my e38 728 but when i got it back from the shop the driver seat and steering wheel adjustment buttons didn't work, i checked the fuse and it was blown, so did a replacement (key out) but they keep blowing.. I did the check to see if there is anything disconnected by accident but everything seems to be connected under the seat

what does the crank seal repair have to do with the fuse shorting out? i took it back to the shop they said they removed batt to disconnect starter motor etc to take the transmission out for the repair job

They told me to take it back and they are planning to take the seat out to check everything under the seat..

has anyone else experienced this ? any advice?

Any other circuits on that fuse?

With the short constantly there it shouldn't be too hard to locate the fault. Probably best for a sparky to check it though - rather than pulling things apart at random. You could easlily confirm if the short was under the seat without taking it out.

it was the garage shops electrician who said that he will have to take it out. (not a bmw specialist)

he did put it on the hoist and check if theres something under where they fixed the crank seal but nothing found

only the wheel and driver seat adjust is on that fuse (15).

only thing is that the seat is quite lowered so its hard to see under the seat completely (could be why he wants to take it out?)
