JesseRaymond 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2013 Just installed my new alternator and it started to squeel when i change down gear. I figured my belt wasnt tight enough so i tightend it more but when i had 4 people in the car it started to squeel again. It only does it when i changed down gear ? Maybe i didnt tighten the bolt properly ? Thanks
gmccormack 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2013 The belt may be glazed from the earlier slipping, so the tightening wont help. Replace it. Is it an M20? and when you say "new" alternator, is it new or just a second hand replacement, the rubber mounting bushes could be worn. If they are, tightening the belt just pulls the alternator to a funny angle and it continues to slip.
