you probably just need to clean and re-grease the insides of the wiper motor.

It's pretty easy, my dad could almost do it without my help.

Sorry to sound like a complete idiot! but where abouts is the wiper motor access? through those grilles near windshield?

on an E28 yes. On a E30, Probably. drivers side grill most likely.

I thought about the motor but I'm guessing since the wiper are working fine on speed 1 & 2 then it must be something else, like the relay

what's the problem? if it's just generally getting stuck half way or not working quite as it should on slow speeds its probably the motor and needs a clean and re-grease.

If a certain speed is not working at all. e.g. intermittent isn't doing anything it's most likely the relay. E30s and E28s use the same relays so they are very easy to find.

Intermittent literally works intermittently. sometimes it works and sometimes it just keeps on going like on speed 1. When you turn it off from intermittent or from any speed, it just stops halfway. I'm thinking either the relay or motor maybe the culprit but want to start with the relay (much easier).

One more thing, I hear relay clicking when it stops halfway. sometimes it keeps on clicking while the blade slowly works its way down to the resting position

Go to a wreckers and ask if you can use a relay just to check it works. If it doesn't make a difference clean the motor. I'd say its one of the two.

Yeah, I know the seller's place, the one you posted on trademe. Hopefully it's just the relay, otherwise will have to take out the wiper motor this weekend

Tried several relays but still didn't fix the problem. Guess it's time to take out the motor tomorrow
