petone 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2005 Hmm, so what would be involved in some sort of CF heat shield? How much for resin etc? Anybody have any good DIY or how-to sites to have a look at? Kinda keen to have a play with it but don't know much about it.
chchgtr 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2005 these are already set and cured so they are solid. they are about as solid as a CD, they have a wee bit of flexability, but not much
aliluya 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2005 Hmm, if they are already solid then what are they to be used for? Like for example how to i wrap it around a CAI to make it look cool ?

Gus 5 Report post Posted October 26, 2005 how solid are they? and thickness? so they pre laid and set......just need cutting with a hot knife? what sort of finish? (smooth?) cheers
chchgtr 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2005 (edited) Sorry, but what is a CAI? these cant be wrapped around anything, as they are solid pre laid up and ready to cut. they are good for air deflectors, air boxes, head unit surrounds, inserts etc. they are about 2-3mm thick (1 layer carbon, 2 layers fibreglass) and they have a glass smooth surface on one side, and a kinda rough painted black surface on the other side. top side; under side; Thanks, Adam. aliluya 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2005 CAI = Cold Air Intake ... So basically you get these sheets of Carbon Fibre and stick it OVER what you have already brought ??
chchgtr 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2005 Ah Ha i see! no sorry this cant be stuck over top of curved objects, and it is not the adhesive stick on stuff you can buy. these are just solid flat peices that can be cut to go around your headunit etc, or 2 or 3 of these can be joined together to form a cold air shroud/box etc. ...If that makes sence

smokenbaby 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2005 If you want to form it to a shape, or wrap it around and object i would suggest you buy the raw material and do it yourself. It is not that dear and is as easy ti work with as fibre glass. Only difference is that the cloth does conform to corners and joins as fibre glass does without vaccum packing and autoclaving. As a guide, $200 + /4 liniar metre for cloth (minimum 2 l/metre) If using for heat sheilding you will need heat resisitant resin. this is quite pricey compared to normal glass resin. Prelayed flat sheeting is great. Just cut to shape, brace and resin together with some fibre glass matting for joint strength. Recommend grinding the back of pre layed sheet to reduce the thickness before joining.
