E46 Fuel smell from engine bay

Recommended Posts

Heya guys,

my E46 328i has recently developed raw fuel smell or something close to it on the passenger side of the engine bay - Any common things it could be before I take it to my mechanic?

I wonder if it has something to do with my funky idle when its cold (it tries to stall? does it every 2-3 seconds while idling and cold)

Might be worth checking the charcoal canister (if the E46 uses them) for any cracks too. Probably a long shot but worth a look

Would that be the thingy in this pic on the left side with the weird shaped lid? http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x301/farcle1/step17.jpg

Also, Apparently I need my VANOS seals done - after much googling last night that is likely what is causing my iffy idle and sluggishness.

I'd attempt it myself but I don't have any tools to do it LOL.
