E36 Air Bag Light

Recommended Posts

So..... i purchased some leather seats for my 95 E36 coupe and have found that they dont have the occupancy sensor. Is there anyway to trick the system into thinking there is just always someone sitting so the light will go off and airbags are working or is best idea to just sell em and buy new ones with the senors??

Any help would be much appreciated!

Regards,

Theres a resistor trick you can mock up and plug in. Its documented on youtube and a few forums around the place. Does as you suggest and doesn't affect function of airbags at all allegedly.

Same as faulty sensor you can wire them to look occupied.

Though you do run the risk of injury to children who wouldnt always engange the occupancy sensor as they are to short for an airbag.

Some new cars also have variable airbag discharge power dependant on weight. Prob not on e36 though.

The sensor is pretty simple so my advice is get the compatable seat or swap the sensor over.

Google occupancy sensor replacement. Should give you an idea of how. Or at worst an upholsterer should do cheap.

I wouldnt mess with a safety system so do it once do ot right

You'll still need the airbag reset tool after you're done repairing the fault to get rid of the light on your dash. Mine might work and you're welcome to drop by and use it if you don't have access to one.
