E30SIX 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2005 (edited) I have just purchase a set of the evo/Euro rear tail lights( red base with clear top ) for my E36, they come with a plug for the electrics sensor. Just wondering if anyone has installed these before and if so is it quite easy? One concearn is that I see upper lightsare clear, if I put the factory bulb into the Evo light slot won't this make my indicators clear. This would be illegal I think or at least not very visible in day time. What do I do and how do the factory Evo lights work, my set is not genuine. Thank you Edited December 9, 2005 by E30SIX
E30stz 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2005 why do you keep saying evo, just curious as not sure did this eurostyle of light originate off the EVO E36's ? Anyway, might pay to check and maybe replace the seals while your at it.
E30SIX 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2005 (edited) I am sorry for using the Evo term, what model E36 are the lights off?, I am new to BMW's and have only picked up on the terms from past posts on this forum regarding these lights. I think it would be a good idea to redo the seals, thank you for the reply. Can anyone help with the indicator problem? E30stz 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2005 (edited) Thats quite alright, if your worried about orange bulbs going into clear sockets, you can buy silver bulbs that flash orange and will clear up the whole look for you. Dnz 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2005 You shouldnt have to ask for this, its pretty easy. Take off plastic cover Disconnect wire plug Take out bulbs (vaguely remember where they go) Unscrew the 4 hex nuts Take off exterior glass - it may be quite tight, so hammer on the screws from the inside if ya have to Reverse of above. And yeah, unless yours came with orange bulbs, youll have to get some. Meh 2, bulbs cant cost too much.
E30SIX 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2005 Last stupid question. The orange bulbs would have to clip into the light hole, would there be a specific parts number?, and where could I go to get some, would it be a bmw workshop, auto electrician or maybe repco? Might have a look today, thanks again for the help.
E30stz 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2005 I've heard of people buying them from repco, take the fitting in with you.
Dnz 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2005 They just gotta be the same shape/wattage, or theyll throw off the OBC warning (well cheap tails will also do that). The bulb is basically a common design, clips into the holder, which clips into the tail light. Obc Errors will appear when You mixed the bulbs up putting em back in (me) You have cheap tail lights You have wrong power bulb. I got some bulbs with mine - theyre clear, but have an orange powder coating on the inside of the bulb, i.e. not on the glass, but on the inside of the main metal of the bulb housing. Good luck, dont anger the obc or your indicators will flash funky.
