bekker 7 Report post Posted February 14, 2006 Hi Can anyone help me by telling what size Allen key I need to removed the disc brake retaining bolt on a E28? Would this bolt normally require an impact driver? Cheers
Guest Andrew Report post Posted February 14, 2006 They are like 5mm on teh e30 - I use an old bike seat on the end of the allen key and do a quick jolt and they snap undone - they don't really need to be done up FT.
ducatiss 1 Report post Posted February 15, 2006 But they can be real tight when you come to undo them. See how you go with an allen key, but you may well need an allen key socket on the end of an impact driver to get it undone like mine.
Ebrew 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2006 If real tight, Put CRC on it, and do it again for several days. You want the CRC to soak right under the head of the screw. If some gorilla has mangled the grub screw, file down a larger allen key until it it is a snug fit. When you put the screw back in, use very small amount of "Neverseize" or "Coppercoat" or similar high temp anti-seize lubricants. You will need to get it out again sometime in the future. If all else fails - The head of the screw is quite shallow (not your standard 8mm allen screw) and if no other alternative, you could carefully drill off the head of the grub screw.
