It,s making one hell of a noise and now the starter wont even turn it over.. does anyone know where i can get a reasonably priced second hand replacement?? No afraid its a case of broken timing chains,I am almost sure of that,.. and Valves kissing Pistons and bending and all those sort of things ...Shock Horror Probe.. E30-323ti 66 Report post Posted February 11, 2004 The tensioner could have failed and then the timing chain could skip a tooth or three... Not good though. Ring around and see if you can find another engine. Specialised in upper hutt had a few E28's last time I was there, BUT, the guy is a complete W@NKER and I'm not going to buy anything of him again!!! Danny Kiwi 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2004 He has an E34..3 Litre Motor that he says is quite good..for around that price... I would prefer the 3500.. BTW Update!!!! It,s not the chains..Took us about a couple of hours to get the Radiator and all the Front Gear off, and the Chains look ok..But!!!Broken number 1 Rocker Arm..and the bottom end will not turn over still...something is siezed... Its No. I Piston too I am sure, so may have a bent Rod!! Will keep you posted and thanks for all your input ..its appreciated. Its a nice Old car!!Leather,Air Con ..Electric Seats, Sunroof ect ect..
