318Touring 40 Report post Posted May 4, 2006 Unfortunatelt the tips only work for year 2000 above radios. What kind of tools needed to get the radio out of its housing? Mine seems to require a screw-in tool for both sides of the radio.
*RJ* 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2006 In my E36 the factory unit had two tiny black flaps that I flicked open to reveal two tiny little allen keys. Undo them and it unscrews to tabs that hold the head unit in then you can pull it straight out.
318Touring 40 Report post Posted May 5, 2006 Hah must be tiny allen keys then. I'll take a look a bit more... Thanks for the advice.
Guest Andrew Report post Posted May 5, 2006 the aerial cable sometimes runs through the glovebox - check there first.
jochen 4 Report post Posted May 5, 2006 Don't do it! band expanders are absolute crap, they destroy the radio performance. Replace the radio with a Kiwi version, I've got original BMW radios that will fit, all Kiwi versions. And I can supply them cheaper than some BMW shops charge to fit band expanders.... A friend was charged $200 to have a band expander fitted to his 325, I sourced a whole replacement radio for less than $150..... and the replacement radio is a million times better than a band expander.
