bekker 7 Report post Posted September 17, 2006 Hi, Just wondering if anyone out there has had any experience (good or bad) with LED replacement bulbs in their taillights? I am considering getting some, but not really out of choice. My other car (not the Beemer) uses an unusual 27/5 watt tail / stop bulb and I'm having real trouble finding replacements. I've been told that the LED bulbs are brighter then normal bulbs. Is this true? And how long do they last? Anybody bought any off Trade Me? Any feedback appareciated. Cheers
Guest Spargo Report post Posted September 17, 2006 Pointless unless thwe actual housings are designed for LED bulbs, ever notice how the E46 and the new range rover tails have individual reflectors for each individual LED? That is wjhy they are so bright. I'd wager if you put LED lights into a housing not designed for them, you'd barely see them at all.
jochen 4 Report post Posted September 17, 2006 The reflectors in the tail light clusters are based around the light source being the filament of the bulb. The light source is at the focal point of the reflector. If you fit an LED replacement bulb, you'll find the light source is nowhere near the focal point of the reflector And the light will no longer be evenly distributed, and will end up being dimmer Don't do it, you'll be disappointed
