blk320i 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2006 i need to rip out and replace my ignition barrel on my e30. ive disconnected all the wires etc but cannot get it off the steering colum. there appears to be a metal spike/pin that goes up through the bottom to secure it in place. is there any way of removing this without drilling it? i want to keep it in one piece so i can use it on the replacement. thanks...... Silver Fox 43 Report post Posted November 17, 2006 It unscrews, has a slot for a slotted screwdriver, should come undone easily.

Silver Fox 43 Report post Posted November 17, 2006 Hi, just had a look at one on my bench, I may have put the slot in it with a hacksaw, but it definately unscrews, it is threaded.

Silver Fox 43 Report post Posted November 17, 2006 Yeah, or just run a hacksaw over the top a few times, doesn't take much to put enough of a cut for a screwdriver.
hotwire 352 Report post Posted November 17, 2006 It's a shear bolt - can undo with a small centre punch, then cut a slot in the head to refit with a screwdriver
