  1. Hi

Apologies from a newbie if this has been covered elsewhere, but I've searched and can't find anything.

I have a 2006 E90 330i, bought new in NZ as a Motorsport with almost every option available at the time. (Hey, I like toys!)

I understand this issue applies to many BMWs from the same period though.

The car is excellent and overall it was a great choice. A big disappointment though is the lack of navigation updates for the DVD-driven iDrive system. In the 5 years I've had it, there has been just ONE update of the database. As a consequence it's terribly out-of-date - Auckland is almost unrecognisable after its motorway and suburb constructions over that period and in Wellington (where I live), my Bimmer tells me I live in the middle of a field!

I've been pushing BMW and the franchises because I think it's ridiculous to pay the sort of money we do for these systems and then have such poor service. Get a $300 unit from d*ck Smith and it'll update once a month if not more often of course.

Little result over the last couple of years, so I threw a spaz recently and my franchise (Jeff Gray) did eventually get back to me at last with the news that there is another upgrade available. Surprising, since I had been asking for months that it suddenly appeared when I kicked up a fuss, but so be it.

And now there's the week matter of price ... $793.50!! What the??!! You can get whole top-end nav systems for less than that. Just ridiculous. And they can't tell me what it actually does - whether it's just the nav database or if it's more of an upgrade to the software as well. They and I will only know when they get it in from Germany.

I'm sick of this and would like to know what my options are. Does anyone know?! I bet there are heaps of people in the same predicament as me.

Can I buy the DVD elsewhere or download it somehow an burn myself? (Unlikely, I know.)

Or is there another way to tackle this problem? I would even consider paying to retrofit the new iDrive system with hard drive, etc, if that meant easier upgrades through USB or internet. But everyone seems to think this is impossible with my car.

So am I going to be blackmailed by BMW for the rest of my car's life with no other options ... ?!

Any help or suggestions really appreciated!

    Regards,

    Mark

We can help you to upgrade your idrive to new iDrive system. Then you will have 2011 map and many more features.

  3. Now you've clarified it. Distributor can only sell at RRP (or above) and resellers can set their own price. That works. The illusion (maybe mistaken) from your previous post was that they would never again be available below RRP due to prices being fixed.

    E39A Android is US$799

    E39A WinCE is US$699

These prices exclude sales tax which looks to be about 8%

Again, It is D95 not D99

This is different. the pre-order one is D99 not D95.

Can you please look at this video:

this is the first D99 video I uploaded, so you should see the difference between this and D95

    D95:

    Posted Image

    D99:

    D99 will have:

Parrot Bluetooth chipset, Video direct output with new software, Double radio tuners, OBC support.

D95 does not have all features above as the major hardware different.

The D95 unit has never got RRP, therefore any distributor can sell whatever the price they like.

Also the hardware has major difference, that is why the price is much cheaper.

  4. When I was importing and distributing audio gear I looked into a fixed pricing strategy to protect product margin (to avoid the likes of what happened to e-audio in NZ) but was strongly advised by my lawyer that it was pretty much illegal. How Apple does it in NZ is beyond my legal understanding. That is why I said "might want to look into NZ law" not "this is illegal".

E39 Android is US$799. Again can't see anything that guarantees OBC compatibility. I presume this pre-order is for the non-OBC units.

Please looked at my reply again, the RRP 799 is NOT USD, it is euro.

Also this is D99 platform not D95, $799 USD is D95 WINCE version sold in US (Also they have low tax rate)

D95 will not support OBC, NO parrot chips, no double radio tuner, no video enhancement and with old software.

    D99 platform:

    For fixing price issue:

Yes you are right, but it is only apply to the business in NZ, which means you can not fix the price with other competitors. this also means people can sell same goods at different price from different store.

But who said I am going to fix the price for NZ retail? I only said if I can't give cheaper price to my reseller then how would them to sell it cheaper. I just want to point out that after first pre-order, you probably can't get good deal like that. does not mean you will get the exact price from every store.

Also as a distributor, I am not allowed to sell it cheaper than RRP to any individual. (retail price)

For apple's case, Apple can set RRP, but as a reseller you can choose whatever price you like to sell, but if the margin is too small who want to sell it cheaper, that is why you can see every one is selling at RRP. But If all apple reseller communicate each other and set the fixed price for retail market, then it is illegal.

    In my case:

    1. I am not fixing the price, as manufacture is giving RRP for all distributors. How would NZ law apply to the company is not even in NZ. The price fixing is not my business activity! I only sell it with RRP which given by manufacture. And most importantly, I did not communicate with and competitors or resellers to fix price.

    2. I am the only one distributor in NZ which has exclusive right, and I am not going to set fixed price to all my resellers, so it is not illegal. All my resellers can sell whatever the price they like.

    3. But I do have to follow manufacture's rule otherwise I will break the contract. my resellers in NZ can sell it at whatever price they like, but I guarantee it will be close to RRP, as they have to have profit margin.

If some one else imported from else where and sell different price in NZ, I have no control over. but problem is that whoever wants to do that, he will probably sell more expensive as other distributor in other countries will follow the same rule.

  6. That one you posted above is the first version that doesnt come with OBC .. we're still waiting for the second version to come out.

Just got back from manufacture, have seen some very exciting stuff over there.

they are planning to relocate production line to bigger place which will have more capacity to produce.

The update for OBC support DVN-E39:

They have just got parrot chip from parrot and also double tuner will be built in which will be better than any other aftermarket radio unit.

the interface has been redesigned again which will have video output directly to high resolution screen (you will love it) even the main control interface is like iPhone interface :)

But the production date is delayed again as they still want to get rid of the first batch of the current D95 platform units before producing this model.

  7. HI, I have just dropped a new Android based Dynavin into my E46 courtesy of Renming - good service btw - recommended.

    Just a couple of questions:

The UI under Android is a little jerky with the odd double characters getting in from the screen keyboard and also I find scrolling difficult. Is there a firmware update (for the Android version) and if so could you point me in the direction of the instructions.

Secondly - I use Sygic for nav on my Iphone 4 and have found it to be very good. Their Android version doesn't work well with the Dynavin (again, this could be firmware related) with some screens not showing at all and it keeps bouncing back into portrait mode on a landscape screen.

I'd be interested to know what Nav Software other people with the Android Dynavin run.

    Regards

    David

    Hi David

I have some new version android firmware and can supply to you no problem.

If you have any issue with it please let me know, I will help.

For navigation, you can download the igo which I tested it on android version works great. PM me so I can tell you how to get it.

  8. Love it but would definitely have to use one before shelling out cash. But I'm happy waiting until the good ones come out. When you say OBC support, is this in android or the other side? Ideally I'm pretty much looking for a complete android solution that also talks ibus. Technically android should be capable of doing CD/DVDs, USB, SD media, analogue radio, internet radio, nav, bluetooth phone, and all the other cool things people want to do. Now THAT I would shell out money for without blinking.

No, it will still be on 2 systems, one is mean radio site with iPod, radio, camera, bluetooth etc.. and other site is android.

The reason for that is the radio site system is really lite software and therefore it is very stable, I can say I have never seen even once the system crashed in radio site OS, and if they put everything into android, then it will have more chance to crash as it runs on more complicated OS.

Also double system can help them to resolve the issue of sound control for bluetooth, radio and navigation.

  9. This is the first simple they made, and picture was taken right after the production line. that's why I said this picture is exclusive.

I have not got much information on price and official release date yet, but the first batch production will be available on mid of SEP, but they all don't come with OBC support. So I am waiting for the 2nd production which will have OBC support and this date is yet to be confirmed.

I will do regular update here and keep you guys posted, and I will guarantee you will see latest new from Dynavin here than any other website.
