  1. Okay, I have got the cam and crank shafts in the right possition, but I can't find the mark for the oil pump/dissy cog, how do I allign it properly? Can I take the top off the dissy and line it up in there? I know a guy who had his 1 tooth off and it ran like a sack of s***, so I would like to avoid this.
  2. Waht is ezy wash and where abouts is it?
  3. It could be that his 2.5 kaked itself and he only wants a cheap replacement for the interim, I did that with an old ford I had, the auto shat itself and I had been saving for a manual box for it, so I chucked in another auto that I picked up for $50 cause it had a dodgy 2nd gear used it for 6 more months and chucked it when I got the manual all sorted. I spose thats the prob when your toy car is also your daily driver.
  4. Well I figured out why it was so sluggish anyway, I changed the two middle headliight bulbs the other day and mustn't have put the rubber cover on properly so when I gave the car a bit of a nudge it sucked the cover into the air intake thus cutting off about 75% of the air plus I was pretty dissapointed at the headlight strength but that would have been because only one was going. Turns out it was only $120 for belt plus tensioner and its a genuine bilstien tensioner so I am pretty happy and the impeller on the pump is steel so thats good to. Couple of questions, should I use a gasket sealer on the pump gasket, what size is the bolt on the fan and how can I tell if the thermostat is f**ked? I pulled it out and it seems to be in pretty good shape, I then jamed it in some boiling water to see if it opened but saw no change, what temp do these ones open up at or is it temp and presure?
  5. Wow, yours was a hell of a lot cheaper than mine, but I suppose thats one of the perks of being up in auckland! I have just done a radiator flush on it and will fill it up with antifreeze/boil once its all back together. Took it out for its first run last night, gets to about 60 pretty quick but is a bit sluggish after that, feels like it might be running on 5 pots instead of 6 so I will have to get it looked at I think.
  6. Its on order at the moment so I'm not sure, it should be in tomorrow so I will see, if it has a plastic impeller what is your recommendation, should I get my money back and get a steel one or will it be alright?
  7. Well I managed to pick up an after market water pump for about $85 and and BMW tensioner and cam belt for $135 so it's not as cheap as I hoped it would be but sitll within my price range, its a sh*t load cheaper than the $450-$500 quoted by a BMW place I rang. Cheers for all of the info guys.
  8. OK, so whatkinda price would I be looking at for a new water pump, new belt and tensioner? I do realise that these things need to be done, but its just more money going out. Does the case around the belt need a gasket and will the pump need a gasket?
  9. I have just finenshed the interior of my car and just have a few maintainance things to do to the engine, one thing being the timing belt. I have no previous info on the car (as it was repo'ed) so I want to do the belt just to be safe. I have had a look around the site but can't find much info about the actual steps involved in the job. How hard is it, I have a reasonable mechanical knowledge and am willing to give most things a go but if I stuff it up, the engine will be pretty stuffed to. Has anyone got any experience with this kinda stuff, any help would be much appreciated. Cheer, James

    Yay

Yeah, I like this colour, it is a lot easier on the eyes, I have a 21" crt and it was still pretty hard to read. I am a memeber on another forum that has a dark back ground but the font is slighly larger which makes it easier to read.

Congrats on the new fourm, the interface is a bit more like all of the other ones I use. I like, I like it a lot.

    Fuel Lines

This is a photo of the engine with the hose sticking up. And this is what I think is the fuel rail. A bit off topic but what is this, it has an old morleys bottle with a little tube going up to something, it has another tube going off to the front of the intake, any ideas?

    Fuel Lines

I bought an 86 320i last week, it was repoed from some guy who was in the middle of doing it up. For some reason the line running up from the fuel filter has been cut about 6 inches above it and I can't find what it hooks up to. There are hoses all over the place and I just can't figure it out. Does anyone have any diagrams or photos of an M20 fuel system so I can get an idea of how it work. Also the little adjustable plastic nut that goes onto the throttle cable is missing, does anyone know where to get one from?
  14. Hey Andy, Cheers for that, I will have a chat to a couple of mates to see what they usually go for and get back to you. It is bolted into the inside of the doorwith 2 nuts and its about the size of a coke can. Jamie
  15. Posibly looking for a drivers lock actuator, what kinda price do you want for that?
  16. Any Idea if I could ring a BMW dealership and get the key code for my car or if they would have a key I could buy for it? Is there anywhere on the car that I can get they key code from?
  17. I just got my new beast home but it came without keys and one door is missing its lock, is anybody wrecking an E30 willing to part with the Ignition barrel, door locks boot locks, keys for a reasonable price, I talked to lock smith and he said that he could make a new key from it for around $100, so something in the $50-$80 would be good. cheer Jamie

    rims

Yeah I am gunna have to keep an eye out, I might have a ring around all of the wreckers here in CHCH, they usually have a fair amount of mags. I will also have a talk to the ltsa about the plates.
  19. I just got an '87 320 and the chrome on the bumpers is pretty scratched up and bubbling so looking quite tired. Now I can get them rechromed as I have a mate that will probably be able to do it fro me, but in saying that, I have seen a couple of E30s around with the bumpers painted the same colour as the body and I think it looks pretty nice. I realise that everybody has different tastes but I was just wondering who has done this and what opinions are about the final product. I gotta get a door resprayed at the same time so I thought I would flick them in at the same time. Also if anyone knows a good place here in CHCH where I can get my stuff sprayed please let me know. Here is a pic of my new beast. Damaged door:

    rims

What is the offset for the 4 stud e30 mags and what happens if you ones with the wrong ofset? Will they just look pants or will it affect handling? Will hub addapters fix the problem and would you have to change the studs over, sorry for all the Q's but I am currently after a set of mags for my new 320. Cheers guys.

    FYI: Brakes

One other really big thing to keep in mind is that brake Fluid works like paint stripper, if it gets on the paint wipe it of with a wet rag and some car wash soap, other wise it will make the paint bubble. I have had this happen on my motorbike tank when I was filling the resivior on the handle bar, it was not pretty and I was not happy!!
  22. I have just picked up an '87 320i for 500 buck and I am looking to have a bit of a play with it. I am wanting a set of 16" rims with tyres for it plus a set of lower springs so I can squat it down a bit. I have about $1000-$1200 to spend on both so I am wanting to get a second hand set of rims and any ideas of a good place for the spring.. I would prefer to get them from CHCH but I don't mind paying for them to get mainfreighted from elsewhere, any help/comments would be really appreciated.
