  1. Hi

My daughter has been quoted $500 to have the  headliner replaced. I tried another upholster however they were not interested in doing this.

Is this a reasonable price? The car is a motorsport with black headliner.

If I were to do this myself, any idea where I can fine the correct fabric?

    Cheers

  2. How did this turn out?

I am also looking at a 2010 X540d with 190kms. Two owner with full dealer service history. I was a bit concerned when doing some research around the cam chain and con rod bearing issues with this engine.

I asked two two independent BMW workshops, the smaller one advised that he cam chain is a big issue and costs around $10k. The other larger workshop advised that they had only done one and cost was about the same.

This is approx 1/2 the cost of the vehicle and as this is going to be the wife daily drive and to tow a hose float around the north island, has put me well off getting it.

any other experiences with this engine around camchains etc?

    Cheers

  3. Hi Jacko

Will have a look at the Bimmergeeks site. The main issue I have found is that theISTA/ INPA programmes I tried wont run on a WIN10 system or requires you down load files from several sources and play around with them which is beyond me.

The other tool  which looks good on paper is the TopDon SMARTDIAG MINI ODB Diagnostic Scanner (Launch ThinkDiag) but is a subscription based system.

  4. Hi

After a stand alone scanner that is able to show trans fluid temp and reset the trans computer on E87 and E90 as well as all the usual service and reset tools.  Other family have Ford  and Landrover so hopefully l0oking to cover those brands as well with one tool. Not particularly interested in paying annual subscription either  - am I asking to much??? oh and dont want to spend much over $500....................................

Tried to down load and set up ISTA etc but failed miserably. Been looking at the Foxwell NT530

  6. you will need to buy a used box from the usa or germany , uk etc from ebay etc .

buy a new light weight flywheel and proformance clutch from jbracing.com etc.

most other small bits can be brought new ex bmw or dealers .

    or modify parts etc

    Hi

Iv looked at this and the cost, ( freight etc) was getting up there in price. Other option I have thought about is to use the Toyota 1uz fe alloy V8, manual g/box adapter are readily available and not too hard on wallet.

would be nice to keep project all "factory" though.

  7. Hi

I have agreed to help my neighbour whom had cooked the m40 motor in her E30 318i.

She had bought a second hand M40 long motor from a local wrecker which was out of a E36 and was told it would bolt in.

After changing over inlet manifolds, mounts etc I foundthat the crank angle pick up sits further out from the block in the E36 than it does in the E30.

If I use the E36 crank pully it will be fine with the angle sensor but wont linr up with any of the accrssory belts p/s, alt, water pump, a/c etc.

Would it be easier to swap over all the pullys to E36 ones?

    your suggestions appreciated.

    Justin

  8. Hi

Time to replace the front shocks on my NZ new 1991 E34 535i.

I have been quoted some silly prices for the Bilstein and Koni units (around the $1k)

HAs anybody any experience with the KYB units or any other brand.

I only paid $3K for the car so dont really want to spend $$$ on it.

I would like a slightly firmer ride but keeping the std springs and ride height (every day driver)

    Any comments/thoughts

    Cheers

  9. Any experiences with this company ??

I emailed him and this was the reply :

Thanks for your email. We do more BMWs than any other car, as they respond well to being Superchipped. The increase is good for your model, being 18bhp for the later model and 15-18 for the earlier one. Both will gain 10-15% more torque. I have done lots of 535s and so far no one has been disappointed.

You will get a far more responsive throttle, better fuel economy as there will be less gear changing, more torque for overtaking and going up hill, as well as having the power come in earlier in the rev range and building to the red line. The annoying low down lack of power that BMWs have will also be all but eliminated. All the programmes are thoroughly tested to make sure the engine stays reliable and is not put under too much stress.

Each job takes about an hour and a half to do and we come to you to do it. The cost is $1,050 fitted, but we will do them for $950 each fitted including GST, ie a 10% discount. We may have to work in the evening due to the time difference with the UK in case we have to contact them.

In 30 years of being in business, we have never had a claim and I hope you won't be the first. All fittings carry a $1million cover and a lifetime product warranty. We have fitted upgrades for Jeff Grey BMW, Hawkes Bay European, Continental Cars and Christchurch BMW amongst others, so I hope that puts your mind at ease with regards our product.

    Any comments????

    Cheers
