This is an existing racecar that has been racing with standard bodywork, and a fairly standard 3.2 litre engine. The Customer is getting RaceFX to totally rebuild the car, modify the engine, and design / construct the body kit.

Bloody hell, you're quick Yuen! I only listed the Z4 last night. Well spotted! Yes, that's my car for sale. I originally intended sourcing the roof / hatch panels to turn my 3 litre roadster into a couple. I also bought a Z3 M Coupe to use the 3.2 litre running gear. But it's all going to be too much hard work! So I'm selling both the Z3 & Z4, and I'm buying a Z4 M Coupe. Should have done that in the first place ... a much easier plan, and should make a great racecar for Targa and the BMW Open Race Class.

> Yip, it's the rotary E30. > No not mine (I'm building a Z4 M Coupe). Andy Culpin is building the E46 GTR for himself, and yes it will be very impressive when finished (circuit car only; fully tubbed wheel arches; M5 running gear; on-board air jack, etc.) > This particular Chev V8 Marcos raced at Le Mans in the 90's, then finished it's racing career by winning the British GT Championship in 2000. Cheers, John

Gidday Yuen. What makes you think that the Z4 project has been discontinued? John
-
Gidday 'The Gus'. It's not my project, just one of RaceFX's customers, so I can't (or maybe shouldn't) say too much! But it's fairly radical - non-BMW engine, and Ford 9" diff. Cheers, John

Here's some more projects that RaceFX ( www.racefx.co.nz ) is working on. First another E46 V8 Coupe, this one with 5 litre M5 running gear... And an E30 drag car having a Ford 9 inch diff installed... And here is Andy Culpin's (owner of RaceFX) new personal toy, a 1994 Marcos Le Mans car... Cheers, John

As mentioned in my previous post, RaceFX in Henderson are currently working on a number of different BMW racecar projects. Check out the body mods being made to a Z3 M Coupe racecar... Cheers, John

RaceFX in Henderson, Auckland seem to have become a bit of a specialist in BMW racecars. Andy Culpin, the owner of RaceFX, admits that it is more good luck than good management, but over the last couple of years his business seems to have attracted alot of BMW work. They are currently working on two E46 V8 racecars; an E30 drag car; a Z3 M Coupe racecar; and a couple of other BMW projects still in the planning stages. I was out at his workshop yesterday and took a few images that I thought the Forum may be interested in. First a shot of the premises with a line-up of BMWs outside awaiting the racecar treatment... And here's some updated shots of the GTR V8 project.. I'll post images of the other projects seperately. Cheers, John

So how many posts does it take to get your second blue square? I've made 62 posts, but still only have one square!

Looks like there'll be a V8 M3 motor for sale soon !!!
jrgb replied to M3_Power's topic in General Discussion
It's already sold and will be re-built as a racecar. It will need a complete new shell, as it is totally stuffed. But all the mechanicals look fine! -
Is this car still for sale?
-
$28,750 is way too much for a damaged, 2001, ex-Singapore M3 with no rego & no WOF. I was going to bid up to $18,000 until I was told it had a twisted chassis, and cracked & leaking diff. We estimated up to $25,000 to repair. So $28,750 + $25,000 = $53,750!! You can buy a 2001 M3 that hasn't been in a shunt for $50,000 ... and unfortunately this car will always be know as "that car from TradeMe that had the big shunt".
-
Sorry, I will be keeping the front grills.
-
Nice thought! Did consider fitting an M5 V8 (it will fit, and has been done), but then I couldn't race in the BMW Open class ... the Z4 never came with a V8 factory fitted! Cheers, John

Thanks for everyone's replies ... again! Yes Hybrid I'm still looking for an engine & box, and definitely want a S54B32. Have been searching overseas, including Japanese 'damaged cars' auction sites, but no luck. An importer is currently looking in UK / Europe for me, and I'm even considering getting a new engine from BMW ... but apparently they only supply short-blocks, so then I'd have the problem of sourcing everything else!! Currently in the middle of stripping the Z4 ... bloody hell there is a lot of unnecessary interior trim ... and it's all so damn hard to remove without breaking the plastic! Cheers, John
-
Photos of wheels added. Yes there is the full auto selector, gearknob etc. Will add some photos. Seats are leather & cloth and standard style. They do have some water stains but may clean up OK - I haven't tried yet because they are still in the car. Will add some photos (I sould be back at the workshop later this week). Cheers, John

Simple Dave ... couldn't afford a coupe! We bought the roadster for a good price, and we're sourcing the panels (roof, rear hatch etc) to turn it into a M coupe.
-
I know they're as rare as hen's teeth, but does anyone know of an E46 M3 3.2 litre engine & gearbox for sale? If so can you contact John ... phone 021-378989, 09-3787840, or e-mail [email protected] Cheers, John

We're currently in the process of stripping a 2005 3 litre Z4 roadster to build a Targa / Circuit racecar. A lot of the road car parts will not be needed, so we have for sale... 4 x 17" wheels & tyres (some marks on wheels) auto gearbox full convertible top (rear window glass is broken) pair of seats plus misc interior trim We bought the car after an accident - it drove into a drainage ditch, so parts will need to be checked out for water damage! If anyone is interested contact John for more details - phone 021-378989 or 09-3787840, or e-mail [email protected], John

Here are the latest images of the new Hampton Downs race track, taken from the top floor of the apartments being built on the start / finish straight. It's going to be one hell of a circuit, with a 17metre difference between the lowest and highest points on the track. Excellent! Track diagram Looking east towards SH1 Looking north across the track towards Meremere drag stip Looking west - pits will be on the infield to the right Also check out http://www.hamptondowns.com

MATE, YOU'RE A BLOODY LEGEND! Magic ... this is exactly what I was after! I've sent them a couple of e-mails, and I'm waiting for them to respond with pricing details. Probably won't be cheap, but has to be cheaper than developing our own. There may be a communication problem with Studie (their whole site is of course in Japanese). Know anyone who speaks / writes Japanese? Thanks heaps, I owe you one! John

WANTED - M3 engine, box, diff, brakes for racecar project
jrgb replied to jrgb's topic in Want to buy
Good advice. You're right, if a car is imported for parts, then taxes are less. Yes, I'm looking for E46 M3, but I'm also considering putting a 4.4 litre into the racecar. -
Good advice! I love the 4.4 litre in my 740 ... great engine. Also currently race a V8 powered racecar, so appreciate the torque. What is the weight difference between the 4.4 V8 and the 3.2 litre 6 cylinder? As I see it, the advantages of the 4.4 V8 are - cheaper cost; more torque; shorter motor so weight set back further. Disadvantages are heat from two headers; possible issues with the steering shaft clearing the wider engine; space to route two exhausts under the car. Cheers, John
