  1. The actual car has the number 12 on the side...

The car in NZ is a '73, the one Josh posted is a '75, and the one I've posted below is a '76. Racecars evolve. There are plenty of differing styles of arches that were used on the racing CSL's, depending on what class they were in -the massive open rear arches were primarily used in IMSA/Group 2 racing.

Here's a nurburgring 24 class wining car with yet another different style of arches:

I guarantee when you see this car at speed show you'll realise just how wide the rear arches are.

  2. I don't believe that you can scan a wrench with moving parts where the computer will figure out the intricacy of its inner workings and create a replica with moving parts.

What they did not show is that the wrench would have to be taken apart to scan the three components separately (handle, worm gear, rack gear). Then, a 3D modeler spent hours cleaning up the models of the three components and assembling them with proper clearances and tolerances so that the printer would print the components without connecting them.

  3. Only thing you need worry about with the M44 is the cooling system, most of it is recycled plastic that doesn't approve to heat. The earlier ones had alloy bits such as thermostat housing, water inlets etc.

Fairly nice cars, come in some neat colours too.

If you have a Fiji Green one come into work, you call me!

  4. Hmmm, $10k more than an RS3. Would rather the 1M for the extra $10% but curious given they're the same 40k pounds in the UK. Might be spec differences...

The trick would be finding a dealer that had one to sell... On pistonheads they're trading close to £10K above book, and they got roughly twice as many cars as we did based on population base.

Can't comment on spec differences, but there really isn't much else you'd want to tick on the kiwi cars.

  5. NZ did not get the 6-speed 3.8 M5's so this car was a near-enough alternative. There are always people looking for one of these.

I know of two 3.8's floating around from near as damnit NZ New, both UK imports though, one Black, one Avus. Are there any more around?

  6. But its not different... you'll just make a facelift look like a pre-facelift... may as well just get a pre-facelift and save much pain and hassle.

More room under the rear arches, and arguably nicer tailights.

The front is straight forward, the only thing that needs cutting is the pre fl tow hook.

The rear requires more fabrication as the earlier arches are cut higher, so the Fl bumper will stick out into the wheel well unless you shorten them.

The rear metal valance is different as well, if you compare both an unkitted pre-Fl and a Fl you'll notice the metal in a FL goes much lower (if that makes sense).

  7. Alpina dont have bolts in the middle of spokes

Some of the later styles come as a split rim.

You can tell they're fake as they have a valve cap exiting the rim lip, not the wheel centre as with all later Alpina wheels.
