Good Call! Need to do mine actually, it filters the cabin air right?
-
Not for all BMWs, list was for E46. Most items and intervals listed are recommendations from the manual/dealership. Sticking to this is wise for most E46 owners, defo the exp tank and pump at 100k

A good guide line, Oil + Filter: 6 months / 10 000kms Spark Plugs: Use Bosch Platinum which last 100 000kms Power Steering + Brake Fluid, flush yearly Trans and Diff: replace fluid every 30 000kms, new gasket and filter for trans each time Air Filter every 12 months Coolant flush + bleed: 24 months Belts: 50 000kms or when needed Waterpump, 80 000kms Expansion tank: 100 000kms Thermostat: 100 000kms

just had my transmission serviced on my E46 4Speed tranny and the service sticker says MHP fluid was used, is this suitable just want your opinions.. i assume its castrol

Yes been to three independent mechanics now and had an ex Coombes and Johnston AND Shelley bmw mechanic take a look, nobody can see anything wrong. It's driving me mad.
-
Yeah checked that it's odd I can't fault a thing, even did the diff bush and yet i get a weird knock from under the car when I gently brake going down a hill or cornering down hill.. only happens once in a while on certain roads .. odd :s

'EEQ842' two plates with the black ferns please Andi for the beloved e46 haha -
Thanks Andi, Being the owner of this car yes of course I will get her looked at. I had my rear suspension and all bushings given the all clear by a mechanic yesterday he had good news, he said its only about 15% worn on almost everything. But still not sure about those twisting rubber bits on the rear strut things (excuse lack of technical term). But there was nothing visibly worn and yet i get the occasional clunk in the rear

Just took the diff out recently when I did the rear diff bushing. Reinstalled and checked it, was all torqued back on well and no play in it. My money is on the rear trailing arm bushings, when Andi and I had a look at them they did look a little dodgy. Its bazaar the car only makes this jolt on a couple of downward cornering hills in town.. it feels like something is shifting or slamming under the car.. it's weird.

Hi guys! Decided to bite the bullet and get my transmission serviced; after Jeff Gray pleading with me not to as apparently there is a definite risk of failure after a service at 100000k+. I still thought it would be sensible to service it anyway. So I took it to Motortech and they drained, flushed and pumped new ATF fluid in, new pan gasket and filter too. The gear shift is now like a hot knife through butter, silky. I am pleased but am wondering for how long should I wait till I next do this?

What is a csb? cheers

all ready replaced diff hanger bush, next step maybe.. guibo/u-joint on drive shaft and trans mounts?

Happened a few times lately. When driving down hill (usually slowing down on a downhill corner) i feel a sudden jolt like something has knocked something underneath my car somewhere on the drive shaft or somewhere along those lines. It doesn't happen always and only does it at certain loads around down hill corners.. any ideas
-
Yeah just replaced the rear Diff Bushing which took a very long time, was a pain to get the old one out (had to use a hammer). Today I had a look at a few E46s at car yards and they all make this noise to some extent, some quieter and less prominent than others..

When I shift the gear selector from P to R the car moves (like a jolt) and makes a clunk noise from underneath.. feels very stiff to shift and when it moves from P to R I feel a definite thud, and can feel a noticeable movement underneath me.. car drives smooth and no other issues with gear shift, the trans has smooth shifting its just when I physically move the lever to select R from P, doesn't do it all the time.. mostly on an incline.
