  1. Has anyone removed their secondary Cat's and had issues with warning lights?

Also, whilst he's at it I'm thinking a cold air kit wouldn't hurt either, has anyone used the "aFe Stage 2 Pro 5R" kits before, they look like quite high quality bits of kit.

  2. Hi all,

Convinced my old man to get into an E90 335i M-Sport and have now talked him into playing with it a bit, he is looking into removing either the primary or secondary cat and as such we are looking for some advice.

1st has anyone perfomed the same mod, i've done a little reading, mechanically its pretty straight forward

2nd what issues are encountered with the exhaust sensors once they're removed

3rd so that he can keep it above board are there any suggestions for places he can take it to have the work done in a clean and tidy manner.

Ideally an off the shelf system would be great but he wants to keep it stockish

    thanks for the feedback

My absolute Pride and Joy. I love this car but is surplus to requirements now that i have a company car.

The 540 is all you could want with comfort, style, drivability and power and safety. Beautiful to drive on the open road this car is built for driving and is an absolute dream behind the wheel. The ultimate driving machine with 440nm of torque 282hp 0-100 ~6s and still getting 9.5 l/100km on the open road and 10.5-11 l/100km combined.

Car is fitted with an M5 bumper as well as Motorsport (msport)

    MSport Leather Heated Sports Seats

    MSport 3" Stainless steel Exhaust

    MSport Suspension

    MSport Halogen headlights

    MSport Lip spoiler

    MSport Shadow trim windows

    MSport Multifunction Steering wheel

Later model engine with vanos variable timing

    Full leather interior

    DSC multi wheel stability control

Full high quality 35% window tints

    Safety Cage and 10 Airbags

Multifunction screen with tv trip controls etc

Recent maintenance includes new tires new brake discs, regular servicing as well as a full preventative maintenance program including a major service with a full coolant overhaul as preventative maintenance as well as timing guide and chain replacement, the kms might seem high but almost every serviceable part on the engine was replaced to ensure reliability in the future, both the guides and the coolant system are archilies heels of these engines and with that done the kms on the motor and chassis are almost irrelevant, this car should easily and reliably continue running for a very long time.

Only fault i can think of on the car is the mags have been a bit curbed over their time.

Any questions feel free to ask, hopefully i can pass this onto someone else who appreciates it as much as i did.

  4. Assuming the vehicle is an E39 540i:

    Remember:

Steering Wheel controls only work with Ignition in Pos 2 (ON) position. They are not powered up when key is in Pos 1 (ACC)

If the nav system looses the ibus data connection, then the steering wheel controls will not work, the system will not be able to talk to the instrument cluster, and the trip computer menu item will disable after a period of time. All functions that require data from the instrument cluster will not be possible.

But Television and Navigation will still be displayed, as their ibus connections are in the same nav loom.

If your accessory position (Pos 1) on the ignition switch is faulty, then the board monitor will not turn on the display (ie: things will work but you won't see them). Check the text display on the instrument cluster to confirm that you are able to control radio, CD, etc.

Jochen, first off thank you for your response.

In position two (first turn), the screen turns on and i have full control, as soon as i go to position three (second turn) then things start blanking out.

The text display on the cluster stays blank so does not display changing radio stations for example even though i can manually change them on the unit itself (as opposed to through the steering wheel as i did before).

So does this leave me needing to fix/replace the ignition switch or the ibus connector... i seem to be suffering from symptoms of both issues?

    Cheers

  5. Hi all, changed the parking lights the other day in my 540i to some nice bright LED ones. Unfortunately due to the drop in resistance in the system the car rejected them and threw up "check park lights" on the display.

The next day i swapped them back but have noticed they have done something to my multifunction display (radio tv etc unit), and to my steering wheel stereo controls. The radio still works as do all the other functions on the screen, i just cant see any of them while the car is running nor can i adjust them while the car is off....?

    1. the sreering controls no longer work

    2. the display stays blank with the time not changing until i complete my journey and turn the car off... ie the time and date on the bottom is displayed with the rest of the screen as black. I noticed it flickers when i have my lights on and off, i am thinking there is a relay that is blown or maybe a fuse.

    Advice and assistance appreciated.

  6. I think the real question is, why is OP looking at a ford focus ghia?

When a family member is looking to buy a new focus and doesnt know the difference. Nice to see high quality snaps but switches and badges dont cry out quality motoring to me..

  7. Monaco will hurt your pocket the most by far the accomodation on f1 weekend is multiplied by a factor of 4 in some places, but it will be the one you will never forget, an item on any motorsport fans bucket list for sure.

I went to Melbourne last year and going again this year, quick, easy and absolutely brilliant (hence why i am going back) and i would highly recommend it as your first f1 outing, and if you love it, its the first in the calendar so there will be time to go to the next one if you choose to.
