Hi all,
Im sure this has been covered several times so a redirect would be appreciated.
I have an e39 1999 non DSP and i am looking at putting in my JBL 6 chanel amp, and a sub to boot.
Questions,
1. Where to buy a Line out converter, do these come in set channels, if so where can i buy a 6 channel one.
2. If i can tap into the standard loom, which wires do i tap, which are best to use if i want to utilise the 6 channel and a sub. (i used to run 4x speakers and 2x bridged to sub).
3. Do i need to sacrafice a speaker output to use an amp?
4. if i want to amplify speakers will i be jeprodizing using all the current speakers, ie can i then just buy components for the front and rears, and put the components in the doors, and split the rear components between the parcel tray and rear doors, is any of this necessary or will standard speakers cope.
Id really appreciate any help im looking to install sub, custom sub box, amp'd speakers, and IPOD install in the next few months so if you have done this and like beer i am more thna happy to supply a box or two for some help in setting it all up .

i saw these and similar devices on trademe and ebay. Im looking to get ipod and bluetooth interface, it is possible under the "anycar" brand and some others, however there are some other more expensive brands/methods as well.
What have you done, what are your thoughts, has anyone tried these?

A colleague at work has a E46 M3 and is after a full set of tires of the following spec
225/45/zr18
255/40/zr18
He has Continental Contact Sport Asymmetrical on there at the moment and has been Quoted for Yokohama V103's at $585 Rears and $420 Fronts EACH which is rather expensive i thought, he also has a 2-3 week wait on these.
Who knows a bit more about these cars/tyres, and can anyone help with tire acquisition at a better price?
Cheers

Hi there Glen,
Thanks for the update, as per my message i was looking to find the availability of some angel eye sets an or HID kits, i did not PM you prior as i wanted to look into these options.
Will pm now but am still looking for an angel eye / angel eye HID / HID setup if they are around.
-
ok, same old problem many will have had, my headlght adjustor on my drivers side has broken :'(
so, what to do, fix, or upgrade.
Ideally id want to upgrade to the facelift angel eyes with a HID kit, to properly upgrade and pimp my lights as it were.
Secondly id want to just go angel eyes non hid
or finally to fix my existing ones and stick with standard projectors.
My question, is where and as what price can i source any of the above, i have received conflicting messages about the possibility of simply replacing the broken adjustor in the light.
thanks in advance

i suspected an electrical overheat of some description as once i pulled over turned off for a while it came back to life.
Any more suggestions on what to avoid, should i bother replacing the relays, if so where are they?

Up for sale is my Alfa Romeo 164.
This car has been an absolute dream to own, and that is something i never thought i would say about a 90's Alfa. It has been one of the most reliable cars i have ever owned, and by far the most comfortable.
Cam-belt was done less than 10,000kms ago as was the water pump thermostat and associated seals, tbh most of this could have been left in as it was in superb condition anyway. Front pads were done recently and the rears were done less than a year ago, regular services have been done.
Selling as i have recently upgraded to a BMW 540i, and in all honesty this car is roomier, more economical (750kms per tank open road!), and has a better audio system, there is definitely more than meets the eye on this alfa.
Excellent V6 engine, smooth 5speed trans, electric seats for driver and passenger, electronic actuated boot (maaasive boot space) full sized spare.
This car deserves someone who will enjoy and appreciate it, i have done over 20,000kms on it and it has seemed like nothing, it needs some love there are a few elements of character as to be expected in an older car (nothing mechanical or major at all!) and new tyres for next wof i am guessing but it is all current up untill then (15" tyres will be cheap).
Feel free to view i am available in East Auckland after 5pm weeknights and can be around on weekends. If needs be i can bring the car down to Hamilton for a serious buyer but will not do so for someone not looking to purchase.

Driving home from work and my wipers decided to stop working. Not only did the intermittent setting (that it was set to) stop, but ALL settings did not respond.
After changing three lanes half blind, i turned car off, on, off, on, and they decided to work.
What happened....? I was thinking as it was on intermittent function maybe it overheated, but im not too keen on having that happen again.

when done right its kinda cool

hotwire Ideally id like to go with angel eyes and hid's. Am in incorrect that this would require a full unit replacement, furthermore is the legality surrounding the melting of plastic headlights?
Hybrid, am i able to simply purchase and install one of those HID kits (ex trademe etc) for these headlights as they have the reverse projector masks?

Hi Jason & welcome.
I've upgraded the stereo in my e39 and did it using the bavsoundwerks youtube guides and a mix of high end speakers and DICE input to retain the factory look.
You don't need to pay bavsound prices to get the sound if you have some basic skills.
I've upgraded to 6.5" Precision Power components both front and rear utilising the factory speaker positions,
x-overs, midrange tweeters and wiring.
DICE ipod interface allows steering wheel control over all my music. sound is exceptional.
All the work was pretty straight forward, remove interior, make customwood speaker rings to allow for the much larger speakers, reassemble.
The bonus with this way is for a smaller price than the bavsound speakers I was able to get a 6.5" driver.
They largest driver they use is still 5.25".
Happy to answer any questions you may have.
Sorry to hijack the post, but have you looked into amplifying the setup with an aftermarket amp? This would be my first audio upgrade as someone has already played around with the speakers in my e39 (by adding new speakers and subsequently shorting out the cabling, urgh) so the amp is the next point of business for me. Also how much was the dice ipod setup, and how does this compare to cheaper alternatives seen on trademe?
