  1. Hey guys! I'm going to start by apologizing because I searched but couldn't find anything about it, and I don't want to start a fresh thread if it already exists. Basically, I have done a bit of work on Nissans, and my friend who is a diesel mechanic has access to all the tools I need. I just bought a bmw with a blown head gasket, the car is in mint condition with a reconditioned transmission, waterpump and cambelt all done roughly 5000ks ago, was taken on a road trip by previous owner and blew the head gasket due to it overheating, it still starts and there is no foamy gunk in the engine from water getting in there, but there is little to no compression on the 5th and 6th cyl. So I figure it will be worth just pulling the head off, replacing the head bolts and head gasket, putting it back together and it should be mint! it's done roughly 197,xxxks. I've called a few BMW 'specialists' but they have quoted 2.5 grand and when I've tried to question why, or if any shortcuts can be taken, they have been very rude and abrupt to me. So, for anyone who has experience with these engines, is it as simple as I hope it will be? What parts will I need? Where do I get them? And if there's anyone in christchurch who wants a cash job, could they do it for me? Really appreciate any feedback, cheers heaps for your time.
