Hi there Just wondering what coolant others reccomend that have the 6cyl engine when replacing old stuff. I got message to check coolant level & the stuff thats in there at the moment looks pretty dirty, so rather than just top it up (dont know whats in there) I thought I may as well give the radiator a birthday. Also heard you need a new rubber seal on the radiator plug as well.

Hey, dunno if any other 320i owners have had this prob, but my car seems to jerk real hard when the auto changes from 1st to 2nd, even so that I hate 2 put my foot down too hard on the accelerator, or else it makes the rev counter go right up 2 3000 revs then it suddenly changes to 2nd and the counter dropps right down to 1000 revs. It is becoming a real bitch, I am thinking the auto box maybe about to go. Does anyone else have this prob or has had it before? It also declines to change down to first when going down a hill sometimes, feels like there is an invisable force on the front of the car. lol Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In response to the OBC, which is what I think you mean, check that the bulbs have not blown behind the LCD screen, or if it is not that then there could be some loose wire behind it. Check this before spending money to buy a new one. If youd like, I could explain how to remove it, as ive done it before on mine.

Why do you want to paint out the black? Blacks looks awsome on a beama. Maybe try a car panelbeater place that specialises in European cars. I have no idea how much it might cost, sorry. Dont ya wish there was pay'n' sprays like on GTA. lol.

Hi, that was my problem as well. What I found was that the bulb behind the clock had blown, I ordered a new bulb which was about $3 from a BMW mechanic I go to on the North shore. Take the unit out and have a look at the bulb is my suggestion. Here some steps to removing it. 1. There is a hole in the sunglass holder underneath the unit, put your finger in there and push it up and pull at the same time 2. Once its out (takes a bit of wiggling) take a scredriver and turn the bulb and it will come out 3. If its blown you'll be able to tell, if so get a new one and repeat the process of removal Hope that helps, it worked for me anyway.

Hmm, looks a bit big to be that. I thought maybe it had something to do with the seat heating, as I am sure mine doesnt work. I think it could be the fuse though because both of them dont seem to. You press the button, it illuminates, but then flicks off after a few seconds.

No, not a plug, just a large switch. Looks like something you would find on a commercial machiene. I assume its supposed to switch somthing on/off.
-
Do you have a weird looking switch on the LH corner inside the glovebox? I do, and havent a clue what its supposed to do.

Cool, thanks for that. Might do just that. By JC do you mean Jerry Claytons?

Just wondering where I can get the black rubber corner seals for my e36's rear window. Other ones coming apart and at one corner, corner of glass is just about exposed!!! If anyone knows, could they tell me the cost of them and are they reletively easy to replace? Bit worried it may leak, dont need that kind of crap!
-
Yeah, mine does it too, I find if you apply the right pressure to the accelerator, it wont do it. Mine does another weird thing - when I am going along a straight, it is in about, idk, whatever gear and when coming to go down a hill, it feels like there is a heavy force holding the car back like it forgets to change down to first or something, anyones do this also? It is a Jatco auto as well.

Thanks for the link to that article, but I already had it fixed. I took it to a BMW mechanic in Wairau Rd North shore (where I live) and they replaced a resistor, cost $250 for 3 hours labour and the resistor.

Thanks for that! I'll give it a go

Hi, driving home tonight, just got out of work's carpark when suddenly the climate control display starts flickering also accompanying this, the noise like a vent trying to shut somewhere in the dash and each time it flickered you could hear the noise. Sort of like something opening/closing, then the thing went blank completely, was very worried at this point as no air was coming out of vents as well, so i turned the fan speed button right off to turn the unit off, then back on again and it worked! Anyone know whats goin on here? Note also I had rear demister on and couldnt turn it off while this happened, its orange light was still on though.

Yes I agree, band expanders ARE crap! What a waste of time and money. I had to saw a bit off the band expander to connect the euro adapter, cause it was a plug and wound'nt fit over top. Anyway, I taped it up, still no reception and the friggin thing wouldnt even sit back in the hole properly cause the thing was too big. Time for a new stereo I think, anyone got any recommendations? I need one with no CD in the front as I already have a factory changer in the boot.

Hi, wondering if it is normal for the seat heater light to come on (when pressed) for 5sec or so, then turn off. It says in my manual, when pressed the seat is contiously heated for as long as the light is illuminated. Is it something to worry about? Cause i'm not sure if it actually works!

Hi, just wondering what the next step is on removing a head unit from a 97 e36, used an allen key to loosen the screws, but unit doesnt slide out. I am not planning on replacing the unit, just removing so I can get to the back of it to install a band expander i bought. Also, how the hell do you change the sound mode from flat??

Is there any point in replacing it? Message went away for about a week, but tonight it came back! If so what does a new switch cost?

When I've had my headlights on and I've turned off the car, a message on the OBC comes up saying 1 Brake light fail, I checked the brakelights with and without the headlights on and they all work!! Anyone had this prob?
-
Thanks Geoffp, took mine to a BMW garage yesterday and got it sorted.

I tried re-programming the remotes as it described in the manual. The LED flashes for 10 sec, but the doors dont unlock and lock 3 times to indicate that it is initialised. Tried with both keys, so it cant be that. Do you have any ideas what might be causing it? I thought it could be that the reciever in the mirror has stopped working. Should I take it to a BMW service centre? I'm pretty sure my model doesnt have an immobiliser system.

I got one for mine through this place called BM Warehouse in Hamilton. You can go on trade me and ask under the BMW manuals for the guy to start an auction for an e36 manual. Mine cost about $60. He has them for all types of BMW.
-
Thanks for that. Any idea what they would charge for a new remote and/or reprogramming it?
-
Neither remote seems to be working with my car. Its a 1997 320i, replaced the 2 batteries inside it on sat, cause it only worked when you were right close to the drivers window. Worked fine. Then decided to switch to the spare remote key (as its in better condition). Didnt work after that at all, not even when I swapped back to the original key! Anyone had this prob? Could be it doesnt recognise the key or something, that or the reciever in the car is dirty or doesnt work anymore. Where is this located?

I've got the exact same model as yours and my auto is similar, when you're at a stop and you take off it seems to wait until it gets to the highest rev then suddenly changes to second and the whole car jerks. Doesnt happen on hills though, only on flats. Anyone else's auto do this?
