  1. Wheels back from the Wheel Fix It too, I left the colour choice up to them - gotta say I'm impressed! Still not 100% sure how these'll look on the car, it's a bit hard to visualise and I can't find anyone online who's running the same combo on e39 m5 wheels.

Also got some new tyres for these wheels. The first set of these Zestino's were epic, lasted me almost 4yrs and tonnes of heat cycles. The fronts are running the softer RS compound this time (140 treadwear vs 240 on rear). I ended up having a fair amount of tread still left on the medium compound ones when they went hard, lets see how the soft ones go.

  2. Not bad! Grant at GT Refinishers has done a great job.

Next up the custom wing brackets onto the factory bootlid and fit the rear diffuser when it arrives. And the M5 wheels once they're back from the repairers!

  3. These wheels are now off to the professionals to repair and repaint properly...! The plastidip has lasted a couple of years, but they're pretty tatty. Working on the colour at the moment.

  4. Progress..! I've swapped over the bootlid to the OEM facelift one & disassembled the spoiler in prep for GT Refinishers to mount up my new struts.

Also ordered a new rear diffuser from Fancywide in Russia.

Also had the glass tinted in super-light 50% film to help protect the interior trim by Seth at Tint Lab. This is well within legal limits (being much lighter than 35%), and looks quite classy whilst not sacrificing heat rejection or UV protection.

  5. New wing struts ready to go, need to (finally) fit up the GTR vents and new bonnet & bumper. Dusted this car off after a lockdown under cover, drove it in to work & planning next steps for the build. With the rebuilt engine, new diff & drivetrain parts now installed this car 'should' handle a little more power.

I would suggest you get professional help to get this diagnosed properly and see what is necessary to have it repaired. Where in Auckland are you located ?

^^ what Glenn said. Not to lead you astray but I've had similar errors in my '04 and it turned out to be a wheel speed sensor. It could be a few things, best get it diagnosed

How hard / risky was it?

I want to remove my tint, but its like 15+ years old and I'm scared of damaging the demister. I'd pay someone to do it, but scared they might too.

It's not hard but if you haven't done before definitely see a pro. If you're looking for a recommendation, I'd say Seth at Tint Lab (used to be Car Folie). He has extensive experience in this - I know, because he did my rear screen a few times way back when. If you want to get a hold of him, www.tintlab.co.nz or just come and see me (his new shop is at OCD).

Does the Steam help with safe removal from rear window, without dmamging the de-mister filaments ?

Yep. Leaves much less residue over. Downsides are it can lift fabrics (as it loosens glue).

Steamer, plastic blades and prepsol made this job much easier than it should have been.

  10. Some minor updates. Removed & replaced side glass tint (front & rear) with super light & legal 50%, poor tinter had to work around the rollcage. Got a bit sick of the gangster dark tints, they're great for privacy but you simply can't see outside at night (which is when this car gets driven mostly). I need to finish off one side window and remove the rear windscreen to re-tint, too hard basket for now.

    Old quarter glass:

    New quarter glass:

End result, still looks classy but not super dark. Also painted front splitter again.

Finally got around to getting some proper wing mounts designed & made, some renderings from the designer below. The hollow parts will face inboard, should look quite good.

    Hang on, the $38k e36 3.0?

If so, are you saying it was $38k with a "fair amount" of interior work needing doing? ?

And you know the owner? And you're letting them market it for $38k? ?

    What am I missing?

Yes to all, the owner also managed to find brand new matching interior cloth so has gone about re-trimming door cards etc to make them perfect. For what it's worth, this car ranks as one of the best condition e36 M3's I've had hands-on experience with (I was sandbagging a bit at 'pretty good' in my previous comment). Does that make it worth the asking price? Certainly not for me to decide, let alone speculate on; I'm not a potential buyer. And there's absolutely no way I expect to dictate how much someone wants to market their car for..!

What I will say is that I hope it sells high; regardless of the generation, M3's appreciating is of particular interest to me..! ?

I seem to recall one of these popped up on TradeMe mid-2019, or did that just have the checkered tri-colour decals slapped on?

'Just decals slapped on' cheapens our work a little don't you think ?

Yes it's still for sale. Pretty good example too, this has since had a fair amount of interior restoration work completed. Might put this on my stand at Concours next month if you'd like to see it in person.

"I wish to retain my cats for WOF"

You don't need cats to pass a WOF, they are not a requirement here :)

Oh great, I heard otherwise; that if they are factory fitted then removing them will fail WOF! Goes to show one shouldn’t believe what ones told, thanks mate!

  14. I'm a little late to the party with this tune, but finally got around to it. Added shift lights, removed speed cut and selected the most aggressive 'pop & crackle' option as I wish to retain my cats for WOF (or what's left of them). Can confirm that Supersprint exhaust + this tune is something else indeed...! There seems to be a fair bit more you can do with this software, but it's of little interest to me/it sounds pretty risky raising redlines etc.

Followed this guy's guide, using BMW flash and ECU worx software:

I'm actually thinking of running a VAC one as well. According to M3AN the E46 OEM mount doesn't have strap that's required for motorsport use? By any chance do you have any photos of the OEM mount? (on and off the passenger seats) Cheers :)

Sorry I missed this one. None fitted sorry, I never actually installed them as I changed seats after buying the parts from BMW. In fact I've never taken it out of the box hahah

  16. I had a go painting up the new bracing myself on Saturday after work

Also chopped up boot floor & rubber carpet into multiple sections to fit around brace. Factory fresh.

Not bad. Swapped on semi slicks and went for a track experience thing at Hampton Downs y'day, was great fun. This car handles like it's on rails now, I'm impressed..!
