  1. 318i 1996 4 door. I wont have this car much longer than a month, just needed it to get around until then. Almost everything in engine bay has been replaced in last 2 yrs. have not touched air con tho, previous owner did some dodgy work rewiring so this car doesnt have aircon. The engine light didnt come on before mechanic "tried" to fix it. Its the last light to go off. Can anyone recommend a good parts place and the general area of which part needs replacing. I have a video pre mechanic not sure how to upload though as the problem now is worse.
  2. I have a 318i. For about a week it has been shaking when i start the car, there isnt much power behind the start up either like it used to do before, reversing and driving makes the car shake and the engine almost sounds like its clogged? Its a struggle to even get up to 50ks. Its exactly like learning how to drive manual for the first time and you bunny hop, but the engine sound is like your trying to rev your car on the spot. Had a mechanic come and check it, he changed the spark plugs, oil and oil filter, air filter. He said it would be ok to drive for a few weeks but recommended getting new spark leads. Only thing is its much worse now. not sure what to do in terms of getting another mechanic look at it. Will not drive it in its current state. Any ideas as to what might be causing this? dont want to go back to that same mechanic!! please help
  3. Failed WOF because of the steering system. steering wheel has been squeeling (sounds like a spring being pulled apart like on a trampoline) when turning left and it won't self centre itself. It's not the power steering fluid, had that flushed out, topped up with fluids and pressure checked by a mechanic who replaced the lid because the liquid was seeping out. That has since stopped leaking. replaced the steering rack, only to find out the arms were bent? Left side of steering rack has excess play in it so I had to get a new joint or arm for the left side. (did not replace whole steering rack a second time round) can anyone tell me why this would happen? I have to get the mechanic to fit the arm and do a wheel alignment.
  4. Cheers Thorburn. Will ask my mechanic to run those tests. I'll swap out my radiator with another one. Are there any cons to using a second hand radiator?
  5. I bought an e36 a couple of months ago. Was in bad shape when i bought it, the front bumper had been rear ended causing the radiator to be bent in at the bottom. Only recently i have noticed the radiator leaking from the bottom where the coolant/ water tank is on the side of the radiator. Is this fixable with a DIY kit? Have looked at replacing the whole radiator as I have to check the coolant and water level every day now. Car has overheated before but did bleed it out and top up the fluids. Any advice?
