  1. Yes lots of americans doing all sorts of things with bottlecaps these days, recently saw a set that had been made to look like 3pc wheels, very cool. If you are going to keep them, would recommend a 10-15mm spacers maybe even 20mm front and back to bring the offset/wheel out. Stock bottle caps are et35 i think, 15" weaves are et25 or maybe et15, and genuine Hartge/AC Schnitzer/Alpinas are et15

Yeah bottlecaps are 35 and they're also only 6 inch wide. Whereas the weaves are 7 inch wide so that's another 10mm either side of centre which means to counter it and make them the same as weaves you would need at least a 20mm spacer. I did this for a while, and I also painted the centres a gray metallic. Ramble I know. Just my 2c

  2. Sit down sunshine.. Ray is only trying to educate people of the realities of cheap copy wheels. thats it. Some of us have had a lot of first had experience with the problem and are only sharing what happens ... no need for the shitty unfounded finger pointing.

You're guaranteeing nothing when you dont know the story behind this vehicle.

The times I've rung Ray he doesn't seem to want to help nor seem interested. Don't know why anyone gives him the time of day.

  3. Welcome poppasmurf. I hear ya mate, there are some corrupt 'so called' European agents in New Plymouth. From my own personal experiance of getting torn a new one ( avoid a certain subaru/european dealer on devon st) theres nothing worse than getting a sh*t job done and getting cheated out of your hard earned cash.

My advise for all BMW owners in Taranaki, take it to the guy at Pitstop on Leach Street. They are a South African couple who own it, he has done his whole trade on BMWs right from the e21s thru to the late 2000s in South Africa. He has all the gear and software and knows first hand all the weaknesses and flaws of each model with advise of things to keep an eye out for. He has been a wealth of knowledge for both my E46 touring and E30 sedan. I trusted him with my E46 for all repairs and servicing and hes open about costs and your best options. I could even supply my own parts if I thought it was going to be cheaper, he is pretty easy going and has a great parts supplier also. By far I would put my name to his service and skills and I dont even get a cut, haha.

    Welcome to the site too!!

    Will see you round

    Travis

Merv Lucas is a massive rip. +1 on Pit Stop. Adrian the owner actually worked for BMW Racing Team in SA... My father does all the auto electrical work for them too.

A regulator mighy be cheap on its own, but if they where going to do full rebuild then a full alternator at $710 would be likely recommendation from most workshops, especially if its genuine alternator, much better for long lasting.

Rebuilding alternators and started motors is a dying trade, not many people do this anymore

It's not a dying trade. Rebuilding alternators and starter motors are done more now than ever before. My father is an Auto Electrician here in NP and it's all he pretty much does now is rebuilds for all the garages here.

  4. You can get the fibreglass ones from here for 70 dollars. You can get a plastic good quality one for about 180-200 imported from states. Or you can buy genuine for 280-300. I sold my last one but can help you source if need be

Bmrmad is the member that makes them, got mine today. Havent unwrapped yet

I can recommend him too. Bought one a while ago for my old e30 for a good price.

not sure if my fiberglass one came from Hans originally, but good quality if it is, cant tell it apart once installed

Thanks guys, I will get hold of him and buy one!

  5. I love how drastically basketweaves change the look from bottle caps. I like what im seeing mate, very tidy! :)

Cheers mate! Should have seen the basketweaves before I restored them! Yeah I know what you mean. This car is going to be all the bits and bobs Ive accumulated from all the others I've had. It should come up alright though. Keep you updated.

  6. Hi guys, well I have my good e30 that I don't really want to run up the k's on and it's soon to be turbocharged and being a 6 cylinder it costs a bit to run around town. So I bought myself a 318i e30 off TradeMe that had a stuffed trans. I had a spare trans from my 6 cylinder when I converted to manual so I've put that in it. Got some lowering springs in, recaro sports seats that came out of my other e30 and some BBS basketweaves that I've recently restored and putting them on. Redded the taillights as i do with all my e30s (now 4 in the family) I've organized some paint to paint the bumpers, mirrors and front lip. Should be tidy enough by the end as a run about. Will keep uploading pics. post-17840-0-49196300-1380445093.pngpost-17840-0-97971300-1380445113.pngpost-17840-0-64928600-1380445135_thumb.j

Small update. Got the black spoiler on today, pic of that with the redded tail lights. Bumpers and wing mirrors are off ready to be colour keyed.

    Will keep posting photos

  7. Hi guys, I'm after a rolling body e30. Doesnt have to be mint, prefer that its not insanely rough though. Definitely only want a facelift. Doesnt need to be rego or warranted.. Just after the body. Coupe or Sedan. And cheap. Let me know if you have something, thanks

  8. I've just bought a Garrett Turbo and I am planning on putting it on my M20. I don't want anything bogan with huge intercoolers or anything. I just want a little but of extra boost. Is there anyone who has fitted a turbo and could give me a few pointers? If you are rough in your approach to putting it in, don't bother, I like perfection and tidiness in what I do.

  9. Set of 4 Original BMW BBS Basketweaves rims.

14" and original condition with grey insert and polished lip.

Comes with tires. 2 are fine the other 2 may be borderline although did pass a warrant about 2 months ago and haven't driven on them for the past month.

    Getting hard to find.

One of the rims does have a slight kink in the bead but tire shop said it's no issue - it doesn't effect the handling (I.e no wheel wobble)

Slight curbing as you would expect from age.

    Any questions

They are on TradeMe (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=591249846) for a buy now of $350. Anyone on here can have them for $300
