sammcj2000 replied to sammcj2000's topic in Maintenance

DIS does give a few errors but they're not really relevant and have been there for the last year at least: -Missing auto gearbox (It's a manual) -ZKE is complaining the burglar alarm siren is not responding. -Occasionally get a "fuel too rich" code though this may have been left over from before he changed the O2 sensor a month or so ago. -Can't check EGS for codes because he doesn't have one. -ABS giving no codes. We'll try cleaning the MAF & looking at the live data. Thanks again for your help Glenn, as always it's appreciated. EDIT: Cat doesn't make any sounds or smell like it's dying. -
E46 318i M43B19TU Uneven / Irregular Acceleration

Sorry, M43 -
I'm looking into a problem my friends E46 318i M43B19TU is having... He's found that when he's driving he is getting irregular / uneven acceleration. It's as if there are flat / dead spots on his accelerator but it's not FBW. I've replaced his plugs and done a readout from DIS / GT1 but there aren't any errors? It doesn't happen all the time, you can occasionally make an entire journey without it happening once. Then the next time it might do it every time you take off from stopped. We're thinking... -Fuel -TPS -Cam Position Sensor -Coil

Actually, I took this photo down Moorehouse Ave a month or so ago:

lol yes this is my photo, sold them without the caps in the end

No it's not, it's the same as all of M$'s other rubbish - new stuff piled on top of old stuff. It runs the Windows CE 6.0 R3 kernel and is part of the Windows CE family. As someone that is a very heavy Smartphone user and has tried all three - I can safely say that the iPhone / iOS is a lot more streamlined, faster, user friendly and reliable, BUT Android is catching up fast - their not close but give it one year and I think it'll be great.

Best place to scap a catalytic converter?

Couldn't agree more. And as for Windows 7 Mobile or whatever they want to call it... It's still Windows CE... Wouldn't go there!

Best place to scap a catalytic converter?

Just visited dominion steel recycling and showed them the two cats out of my 540. They gave me $190 for both which I thought was decent. -
Anyone know who pays well for catalytic converters in Christchurch? I just rung round a few and they're all trying to rip people off ($15-$45 per cat). They're full of precious metals that are worth a lot and I've got two big'uns from a 540i. Sims Pacific 8 Wickham Street Bromley 384 4059 $ - never called me back Dominion Trading Co Ltd 333 Blenheim Road Christchurch 343 9993 $40-45 each Metalcorp NZ Ltd - Christchurch Branch 615 Halswell Junction Road, Hornby, Christchurch Freephone: 0800 73 55 72 $15 - 20 each.

Ouch. Just as good as it did before, I'm surprised it so tidy after 130MILES! I did it just to piece of mind, it wasn't a flush it was just a service / change + filter as a full flush would be around the 600 mark.
-
Ah right. Has anyone here had any luck hooking their ODB1 E34 to carsoft or INPA? My carsoft setup worked with my E36 and my friends E46 but not with the E34, It just won't speed to the DME
-
So do all e34 540i's have the 5HP30?
-
Consider it done.
-
Just got the car back from a Gearbox service (not a flush) I told them it was a 4HP22 and they said it'd be around $180-$200 because of the amount of oil those things take... Turns out it has a the 'Big Bertha' a 5HP30 in it! ... .... ..... wait for it.... ......................... $379! Ouch. On the up hand they said the GB is in mint condition and shows signs of being serviced in the past.

Just had both the cat's replaced with straight through pipes and the o2 sensors plugged back in. It was $165 and Magoo near south city, the guy tried to keep the two cats and was like 'Oh the price I quoted you was with us keeping the cats' so I told him that the guy on the phone said they wouldn't want them and I could keep them etc... anyway he gave in and put them in my boot! As for the sound, it's absolutely no louder or nicer what so ever, not even slightly - in fact it's probably quieter / less deep than it was with them in! - Bugger, hopefully it's breathing a bit better though. Where is the best place to get the old cat's scrapped?
-
and a LOT of $, for me it's not really worth it considering it's just an auto. EDIT: as much as I'd like to let all of bimmersport know!
-
Yeah that is a lot of money isn't it, mind you a Remus is enough to make even the tightest panties drop Yep, I'll let you know what it's like, I was looking for something cheap and you can't really go wrong with $117 delivered as long as it actually does something, hell if I got 5hp from that - that's good, hopefully I will be saving some fuel with the chip+cat remove done.

If you're paying! -
Just purchased a new performance chip from microchips-tuning. (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/microchips-tuning) It was only $117 shipped to NZ from the the UK, the guy I spoke to there (George) seemed decent and said their standard gain on a M60 is 8%. Should be here in a week and a half, I'll let you know how it goes.
