  1. your best bet is stripp the engine down and take it to a reconditioners. they will asess it and pressue/crack test it and tell you exactly what needs doing and what it will cost. if your going to get it rebuilt theres no point in just doing half a job and jus doing rings. you want to go full monty so you dont have to do it again in a years time. if you skimm the pistons you can lower compression that way. if you want extra hp your best bet is intake and exhaust systems maby a chip. but you are conteracting yourself by lowering the compression if you are not going to run boost straight away. im not sure about your motor but most bmw motors can run up to about 12psi safely although this will increase the wear of the engine. also you will have to find out if running boost will be aloud by your ecu

  2. hey i chekd out loom etc. there are 2 pins for the ecu. it has i diagnostic plug also. is this fl or pfl? also i need a distributor for it. the dissy is up by the cam and there is a blank plate on the side of the block where the other dissy sits. could i use the dissy out of my 320i which is on the side of the block? and wat about the 320i ecu? would that work?

  3. Motronic (BOSCH) computer from 1989 325i Motorsport..

    numbers 0 261 200 164

    1722190 001

    made in germany.

these are the details i know about it.

i am not sure about the plug in the engine as the engine is not in the car yet. how can i tell if my motor is pfl or fl?

  4. hey iv got a motronic ecu at home from a 1985 325i and ive got a 1987 325i motor. its the motor where the dissy is up by the cam and is controlled electronicly i think im not sure as i dont have the dissy. do you guys know if this ecu will work or do u guys know how i can find out?

  5. what this guy said is very tru. the most important part of your system exept for the front speakers is the head unit without a good one your going to get nowear. iv got a 1985 320i and im just running amped fronts and a 12" i took the rears out to help the base circulate. and it sounds amazing. the headunit cost me $600 and the rest of the system cost me around $200 and it easily out performes some of these $2000 ones

  6. If it was me i wouldnt bother balancing,or port polishing. Id just upgrade the cam to a mild shrick one, re ring, check condition of the pistons, Some tidy extractors, Good exhaust system, and a basic link computer system. Done! 190ish hp good relaibility and save dollars on mods that dont do alot performance to dollar wise.

What about things like adjustable pressure regulator and crap like that? i heard that the bmw motors are alredy pretty well balanced. do you know where i can get things like a new cam etc for it?

  7. i have a 1985 320i and i have just purchased a 325i motor to put in complete with everything exept flywheel clutch dizzy water pump ecu and throttle body. i am getting the engine balanced, re ringed honed out port polished and a 3 angle valve. can anyone advise me on what ecu to get and what i can do to get the most out of this motor?

    many thanks oli
