  1. Its pretty interesting stuff they're doing with their fabrication but im not a fan of the products of his imagination. I couldn't keep count how many times the presenter said "supercar" in the show- a 318is (?) with pod filter, exhaust and port polishing is hardly a supercar.

Maybe it became "Super" when they added the extra 2 cyls?

  2. So the O-Ring on the bottom of my fuel regulator has crapped itself (while I was driving back from work, hot motor <_< ) and I have tried EVERYWHERE to find an O ring the same size on all axis.

Do I get it from the stealer? And if so will it take a year to arrive? Have tried all the local plumbing places, Ripco, super cheap etc but forgot about the stealer.

Forum sponsors are always worth a try. I also have these in stock, sorry I missed this thread as I usually check the wanted to buy one.

  3. Thanks everyone for your input. It is valuable and interesting reading.

BD, thanks for that info. Its good to have it all in one place. Its rather hard to decide plasma or LCD (like presso!) because as Martyn said, It all comes down to what you use it for.

presso, interesting story. Appreciate it. Just shows that its easy to be swayed and maybe not to have a preference set in stone before you go into the shop :P

Martyn, The tv will mainly be hooked up to a HD Recorder, and sky (with the possibility of mysky HDi if it works allgood) also sometimes HD xbox 360. Just general use, movies, sports, new etc.

Interesting how you all went for Samsungs. I'm assuming you found it to be far better than the competition? Hardware wise, and I have to admit they can look absolutely magnificent in the right room.

Jeremy, My mother has a Sony 40" LCD. Looks great also pictures not bad. HD ready, so not Full HD which is a shame. But seeing she doesn't have freeview or sky she's not getting the best picture out of it as possible. Samsung and Sony are the two I'm kinda leaning towards now. Have experiences with both and both perform very well.

Graham, Thanks very much for that advice. Very valuable. Future proofing! I doubt thats realistically possible these days, unless of course you want to spend a fortune. Its like computers, I bought my Dell laptop 20 months ago. Specc'd it fully 2 gig ram, 120 gig HD, good graphics, and you go on their site today and you can easily double all of those numbers for the same price or less! Its amazing, and Tv's are slightly like that as well I believe. But if you get a good top of the line TV it should do what you want for years.

Kiwi535 and Mark, I didn't realize they would upgrade your cables. Something to look into. I've got the impression since I've been looking around, like you said, Samsung are the best LCDs. Will probably end up going for one to be honest.

Any other opinions, experiences are appreciated. Cheers

Did I hear either Harvey Norman or Magness Benrow advertising 50" plasma for around $2300 this morning? May be a good deal if you decide plasma is the way to go.

  4. Anyone have a set of these at a "bargain" price? If so let me know and if he likes them (and the price!) I will send you his contact details. Thanks.

Now he has decided 5 spoke ones would be his preferred option if possible. Anything available?

  5. Want to know if anyone has any fog lights to sell. Either that or some plastic sheilds to put in their place. At the moment its just holes but the wiring is there to take em.

If anyone has any please let me know.

    Thanks, Joe

I have these in stock, new aftermarket units Bimmersport price $95.00 + GST each.

  6. Oil level sensors on these commonly fail causing this exact problem. As long as your oil checks out O.K. on the dipstick, just ignore it. New ones from BMW were around $470.00 + GST last time I checked. Will have some OEM equivalents for somewhat less than this in early November.

  7. ok thanks guys, will check it all out this weekend, hopefully it's not the headgasket

The engine management sensor can cause problems like this. It is the blue one in the thermostat housing. Should have around 2.9K ohm resistance when cold, and this figure drops as the engine warms up.

  8. hey just wondering if anyone out there has or knows of anyone with a manual conversion to fit a e36 325i coupe. i need all parts to complete the conversion. hope someone can help or put me in the right direction to find something :)

    cheers.

Can supply a complete kit for $1000 + gst.

  9. thanks, BnT have a pump for $97 so ill check which one we need (they come in 8mm bolt holes and 10mm bolt holes apparantly) and try get one tomorrow!

Thats a load of bollocks. There is only one water pump for your 318is regardless of whether it is an M42 or M44. Make sure the pump you buy has a METAL impellor. I have these in stock if you havent sorted one yet.

  10. Hi,

so do you mean it measures 16mm across the thickest/widest section of the cam?

I adjusted the clearances several weeks ago (0.25mm when cold) and I have one where the smallest I could make the gap was over 0.45mm! Is it common for one to wear out much faster than others?

    Thanks mate.

The adjuster cam is actually perfectly round when new. The hole which gives it the cam effect is offset to one side of the disc.

  11. ok

we have a e36 318is msport. its a 96 model and has the plastic thermostat housing, if that helps.

This is our daily driver so would like to try suss it out sooner than later.

Originally I thought the thermostat was at fault, as sometimes the car would get up to temperature and keep climbing with no signs of stopping. We usually parked the car up as it got to the line before 'too hot' but we have not driven it with the overheat light on. We tryed to get a thermostat through ripco, but they dicked us around and now we are looking elsewhere. In the meantime I have taken the tstat out completely and we drove like this the other night with success.

UNTILL we pulled up to a stop at our gate, at which point the temp started slowly climbing again. We had done motorway speeds, twisty backroad speeds, suburban 50k areas and stopped for fish n chips before getting home, so a variety of driving did not cause it to overheat - just when we came to a stop at the gate.

I have done the following to test:

    - water flows through radiator fine

    - no bubbles in the coolant, not burning white smoke so i dont think its a headgasket or crack anywhere

    - belt on waterpump is nice and tight, no rips or cracks and is not slipping

    - pretty sure waterpump is working because it will draw in water through the overflow tank with no trouble

the only thing i can think of, is the previous owner ditched the plastic shroud for the fan and radiator for some reason,

and this is causing a lack of air-flow through the radiator at a stop, but I cant see how this would be differant with/without

    a thermostat.

any help appreciated, is it worth replacing the waterpump and belt? other than this temp issue the car runs fine and

is not down on power (anymore than a 318 already is, dohohohoho).

    cheers

Have a look at the water pump. If the impellor is plastic and has cracked, it will sometimes still pump under low pressure/low temp conditions, them as system pressure & temp build, the impellor loses grip on the shaft and pumps little or zero.

  12. hi guys just doing a motor service on my 1990 525i it has the m20 motor in it was wandering what is the correct engine oil to put in it? also my motor smells like its running way too rich what would be a course of this ?? also when the motor gets too normal running temp the idol goes up and down and will somtimes stall ??? any help would be cool thanks.

Engine management sensor can cause erratic idle/rich mixture/engine cut out. This is the blue 2 pin one in the thermostat housing. With the engine stone cold, should have around 2.9K resistance, and this will drop as engine heats up

  13. How do you change the language on the digital check read-out? This is a 1995 320. I've tried turning the ignition on one click and holding down the check button, expecting it to cycle through the languages, but it just comes up with squares. Anyone know?

    CHECK CONTROL E36

    TO CHANGE DISPLAY LANGUAGE:

ENSURE VEHICLES BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED

TURN IGNITION KEY ON ONE POSITION BEFORE WARNING LIGHTS COME ON

PRESS CHECK (Display will go blank)

PRESS AND HOLD # 1000 & 10 BUTTONS TOGETHER TILL DISPLAY READS 'FUNCTION'

PRESS # 1 TO GET DISPLAY TO READ '01'

    PRESS SET/RESUME

PRESS # 1 AS MANY TIMES AS NECCESSARY TO HAVE THE CORRECT LANGUAGE DISPLAYED THEN PRESS SET/RESUME

TURN IGNITION OFF THEN BACK ON TO CONFIRM
