  1. found both send and return fuel lines in the engine bay were rock hard and weeping. Nice. Last serviced 9 months ago at McMillians in newmarket.

    rough idle

usually a bad idle control valve or cracked vacuum line. I had both one on each e30. I also have a rough idle on my 5 but it's neither of the above.....
  3. why a sr20 anyway? the top ends are weak and don't rev and the ecu is just nasty. P.S. I am also a nissan kinda guy... and I still don't like them! If you are doing it yourself what about an s2000 engine. 200bhp + ( with a good tune 250 is do able ) and if it'll go an a 120y or an escot, it'll go in a bmw! Plus add a mugen or hondata ecu and a 6-10 lb turbo, and then your 300+. Just a thought.

    2.5 engine

sd european do a 2 litre to 2.5 swap for e30's at a reasonable price. Add a 318is diff and z3 cooling baffle ( for the diff ) and it'll give an m3 of the same age a good run ( straight line only mind! ).
  5. on both my e30's and the two e34 I'm familiar with the service lights are use and type of use based, so I f you drive pretty normally and don't see much "track" time you'll get about 6 months between lights. I get 3-5 winter or summer ( less for summer - a bit longer for winter ). I know one guy who got the full set in 1 year so I doubt it's time related, unledd it could be time limited, ie it'll come on earlier but not more than 6 months, but I doubt it.
  6. I've found a faq on this issue for e28's but I have a e34 525 and I get a fuel smell sometimes in the cabin. Can't find any leaks in the engine bay, so I'm thinking breather. So anyone know where it is? or have any suggestions? Also looking for some new shocks as mine have done 200,000 km + and are a bit crap. repco and the shock shop have drawn blanks ( curse these foreign odd ball cars .... yeah whatever ), and Stocks don't like me much. any help for either?
  7. yeah the big amp is comming. found a loose wire and all runs fine now. Boy do those speakers bite hard!
  8. cheers, will go looking on the weekend. I've already swaped the head and have a few amps sitting round from this and that, so It could be time for a little TLC for the road sounds again. Boy do I hate taking trim on and off.....

    tyre test results

well I'll add... loved the 539's T1s's ra1's and I hear good things about the 901's. GT radials are s*&T Kumo are evil - have a set of 711's on my z and till they get hot they are rubbish, and once they've been hot they stop gripping when cold... nice for a drive home from the track, in the rain.... hancook are evils ugly step sister. Avoid! T1's are rumored to have tread crawl issues in some sizes ( from an rz 7 driver ) but most of the quick elise drivers swear by them - ditto the Z drivers. Fedralllllls belong on taxis - so put them on a holden The new dunlop and yoko road/race stuff is very good - ask the targa guys, but most people I know still go ra1's for serious grip/price. At the cheaper end - I also hear good stuff about toyo roadpro 610s. Oh yeah never michelan mx's again! had them on a merc and they were crap!
  10. I've got a dead mid driver in teh front, and the yanks inform me I probably have a dead channel in the factor amp. However as the car is nz new and had a factory alpine head I somewhat doubt there is an amp in there. Anyone swaped speakers on one of these before? front components mids in the kick pannels and tweeters in the dash. Cheers.
  11. I ran ebiach pro sports springs ( 60 and 50 drops - progressive ) on one of my e30's and they were briliant They gave a 96mm ride height though, so I needed certs for them. Tire wear was noticably worse than stock, but they weren't on the car for looks... so the tires were going to be thrashed anyway. If you just want low, give cobra springs a call and they'll make whatever you want - eventually. Repco sell them. For looks only mind! racers need not apply!
  12. Ok newbie here. I've just bought a very tidy 1988 525i with high miles. I'm looking at a possible engine swap either for another m20 or perhaps to a later model vanous unit. Anyone done this and can offer some insites - I'm guessing I need the loom, ecu, engine and ... Um? Thoughts? P.S. this is my third BMW after 2 e30's both 320i's.
