So, I decided in the end to use my 850r to commute from Hamilton to Auckland and back. With this situation, the 850r is manual and has cruise control, great for cruising but pain for Auckland driving. The new (old) car I buy more than likely auto can be used to drive around Auckland so no requirement for cruise control. Also I thought it would be good to have something with more of a classic look so decided an e28 may fit the bill. I needed to put myself out of misery so have purchased an 86 e28 535ia. This one is in way better condition than my old 1982 e28 520i. Thanks all for your help.

Was going to go look at this on Saturday and purchase if checks out, assumed this being SE spec had cruise control but nope. The original owner specced electric steering column adjuster and double glazing but not cruise. May have to look beyond e32 and e34s, if anyone here has got a w124 mercedes 300e or 320e with cruise control, I may be interested too.

Yip, just messaged the guy earlier, looks like a well looked after car too except for the rust in the radiator support. What would these be like at 260+ kms though. Was not originally looking at the v8s as I was too afraid of all the sensors etc failing but I suppose any 25+ year old car may have an issue or two. Also how do the M50 engined 525is compare to a 535i?
-
Just found out that cruise control may not have been standard on all the m30 engines cars. Was planning on using the car to travel from Hamilton to Auckland and back once a week, sounds like this is becoming more of a unicorn than I anticipated. Will update the spec above.

Doesn’t everyone ;).

I know right, below is the last e32 I saw in flesh. Outside the Good George pub in Rotutuna. Pic is from at least 6 months ago, but I am sure it was still in the same spot but in reverse when I drove past two weeks ago.

Thanks Jared, agree with your comments, though not looking for a manual one specifically. Basically outlined my preferences and also where I am at with how much I want to pay so as to not waste anyone’s time. The prices I have noted is what I am looking to pay and not necessarily what a particular car is worth. I have more than one 20+ year old car (Volvo 850r and Alfa 156 v6) which I also have so can’t afford to splurge top dollar on the best 735i or 535i either.

Hi All, 10 years ago i sold my e32 735il (pictured) when I went back to uni and made sure I bought another one again. For now will be interested in either of the below in fair condition and road legal : A - e32 735i or 740i (short wheel base preferred) with cruise control. Interior - Grey or Silver leather interior in good condition, would consider the grey velour if mint. Exterior - Prefer Metallic blue, black, grey, green, brown/burgundy May consider silver, red, white or Atlantis blue, Not interested in beige. Sunroof would be great, but needs to be working and drain holes not blocked. Prefer rust free car, especially under the rubber or stainless trims. Not interested in cars with current or impending mechanical issues (engine or trans). Looking to pay around 3k, or a little more if the engine and/or transmission was rebuilt in the last 5 years, or if the mileage is genuinely low (under 200,000km) Needs to have working cruise control which may have been a cost option or on SE trim only. B - e34 535i or 540i in fair condition with cruise control. Interior - Grey or Silver leather interior in good condition, would consider the grey velour if mint. would also consider the Black, Blue or Red leather interior depending on exterior colour. Exterior - Prefer Metallic blue, black, grey, green, brown/burgundy May consider silver, white or Atlantis blue, Not interested in bright red or beige. Sunroof would be great, but needs to be working and drain holes not blocked. Prefer rust free car, especially under the rubber or stainless trims. Not interested in cars with current or impending mechanical issues (engine or trans). Looking to pay around 3.5k, or a little more if the engine and/or transmission was rebuilt in the last 5 years or if the mileage is genuinely low (under 200,000km) Needs to have working cruise control which may have been a cost option or on SE trim only. C - Mercedes w124 300e or 320e 1985-1993 ( May consider 1993-1995 e320) Interior - Prefer leather or velour ( may consider cloth or MB-Tex if close to mint) Exterior - Prefer original paint ( minor scratches or minor clear coat peel okay) Prefer unpainted bumper rubber. Sunroof would be great, but needs to be working and drain holes not blocked. Looking to pay around 3.5k, or a little more if the engine and/or transmission was rebuilt in the last 5 years or if the mileage is genuinely low (under 200,000km) Needs to have working cruise control. Please PM me with a picture if you have a car that matches the preferences and with details. I am willing to travel to view but prefer cars in Auckland or Waikato. Though if I have to relocate the car from South to North Island it may affect how much more I can offer you. Option D - convince me that this is a bad idea

All fixed now, you were right, it was the throttle cable that was stuck it came loose and got stuck at the point where the yellow arrow indicates. thanks all for your help. Feel like a complete numpty.
-
How would you fix that, i tried pulling and pushing it while the the car was running but it did not seem to make a differance it was still reving steadily.
-
You maybe on to something when i had a look, some disintegrated plastic fell in my hand and the end of the cable came loose. But it is not the cable you pointed out but a secondary one which as far as i know is the cruise control actuator cable. Could this sill be the porblem. Cos it was running normal after i started it but as soon the dude pulled on the cable it started going crazy. Thanks for the help so far guys. I also sprayed Carb RClean on the sensors and throttle to clean them up.

Well someone was looking at my car's engine bay and whose itchy fingers decided to manually move the throttle assy to rev the car. Suddenlly the car's throttle seems to to be jammed open or something because it revs really hard even without any input from the pedal. I didnt really see how far up the range it will go, because having a 4hp22 i didnt really want it to rev too high while in park. I cleaned the throttle assy and tried taking it for a drive and it seems to drive itself. Please can someone tell me what is possibly gone wrong. I have removed the intake boot to see if the throttle flap is open while the car is parked but it isnt, it only happens when i start the car. Any input appreciated thanks.

Well look at the price reduction above. My loss your gain.

Come on guys , put in your best offer , can also sell it for less without the trx's , head , inlet maifold, electric rear seats and middle exhaust section.
-
Well i would like to see it go to a good home. so $2500 with extra parts listed below or $2000 without. Surely some one wants a e32. Not much left to be perfect , needs new brake pads and rotors, and front upper control arms and rear pitman arms. All can be sourced from B.S. members. for not much. Very nice drivers car , but it is hardly used now since i started University. This car has documents since brand new. Current wof and rego. Atlantis Blue with Silver Grey leather, around 238000ks. All mechanical work done only by : BMW Japan Service European Vantage Engineering and Marque Automotive Things changed within the last two years (which you don't have to worry about): New engine mounts New gearbox mounts New water pump New front lower control arms New Heater valve New V-Belts Gearbox serviced, ATF and filter. Issues (If you can call them that) Dents and scratches par with the cars age Headling sagging Instrument cluster light not working. Front tyres need replacing and wheel allignment. Extra parts Original set of original Trx wheels with low tread. Sony cd player with frontal aux and usb port (car has factory 10 speaker Sony system) Spare Head for the engine. Spare inlet manifold Electric rear seat off a 750il (Will need to be wired) 50mm lowering springs as in first picture below . Spare middle muffler section non cat version. ( all you have to do is install and connect the o2 sensor to it) Free flow rear muffler by previous owner. The 16s on the e32 are not style 5s they are BBS RS'
-
Absolutely mate, this same thing happened to me last year when i was going to sell the e32, i had it on the market for much less than i spent on it and at the end of it i decided to keep it. Why should you spend all that money getting it to near perfection only for someone to buy it for less and whether or or not they will take care of it as well as you did. And you'd be kicking yourself if you ended up buying a lemon when the e34 is such a brilliant and reliable car, or not finding a worthy replacement. I think you've made a good choice.
-
thanks mate, the car looks nothing like that anymore.
-
As title suggests, 50mm compressed springs for e32s without self leveling rear suspension. So suitable for all short wheelbase 730i, 735i, 740i and 750is. But may also fit 735il, 740il and 750il if like my 735il your rear suspension was converted to non self leveling. $100 for all four. It costs over $300 to compress your own set. I didn't take a pic when they were on my car , but this is about how it looks lowered.

This is something thats got to do with the question on Top Gear in the last season. Here's what i stumbled across last year. http://www.ladaparts.ru/hotrods.php Let the salivation begin.
-
Yep , OZ first then by Ronal , only the two genuine genuine A C Schnitzer forgers that are known. Replicas are cast usually.

Saturday is for club members who are displaying only , viewing for the general public is on Sunday the 8th i think.
-
Yes it is on Sunday the 8th, starts at 10am - 4pm to the public. Entrance fee is $10 http://www.concours.org.nz/index.html

Absolutely , maybe thats why they can accomodate a 4200cc displacement aye. I wonder how much bigger you can go? I wonder how much you can push out of these if you use tripple Webber 45dcoes.
