  1. Hi,

I have an 87 318i with an Auto M10. It overheated last week and I have since found out it has a blown headgasket.

The head has not been removed yet, so I don't know if there is any damage to the head.

What I would like are opinions and approx costs on the following.

    If motor is not cooked:

Replace headgasket and return engine to condition it was in before.

    If motor is cooked:

Would a rebuild be best, or replace the whole engine?

If I replaced it, would it cost much more to change it to a 2.5L vairant? If I replaced it with a larger engine I would also like to convert it to manual, what would be the approximate cost to do so?

Keeping in mind I would not be doing any of this work myself, it would all be done by a mechanic, are many hours of labor involved?

    Thanks heaps!

  2. Last week I went to Fasttrack in pamure for some work stuff, its where all the freshly imported vehicles are compiled.

Near their front gate is an area where they park all the out of the ordinary cars, and sitting there this week is a freshly imported red LHD e30 m3, my jaw dropped as its the first I've seen in person, it looked awesome. I was out there again this week, sitting in the same place was another, freshly imported LHD e30 M3 in black jap writing still all over the windows.

I am so surprised I go from never seeing one before, ever, to seeing two in two weeks!

  3. Mate thats a nice car! RD wheels are rare as to so good catch! impressed gotta be a p/f to ;)

Yeah, I like the wheels a lot, they really suit the car being from the same time period and all. P/f all the way!

P.s. the car in your sig is hawt. Real hawt. Its tempting me to take my awesome monsoon shields off.

    Are you david's bro?

    Such a neat wee car!

Yes, I am. The younger, better looking, all round better brother.

    Very tidy! I like.

I laughed at the dual floor mats, and your auto shifter is around the wrong way.

The dual floor mats are part of what keeps it so tidy! David has them in his car now too!

And yes, the auto shifter is around the wrong way, I have swapped it around to the correct way since the pictures were taken.

    nice, i like it

who did you buy it off? somewhere in SI, CHCH perhaps? i seem to recall nearly buying that car at some stage

No, I purchased it here in Auckland, off an old man who lives/d in east Auckland.

Cool car! Off topic but ask your parents how they got those vines to grow in perfectly straight lines along your fence?!

    As JP said, wire.

Two eye hook things, one at each end of the fence, wire in between, lay the branch/vine over the wire and let it grow. Occasionally come out and twist the branch/vine around the wire, but generally just leave it to grow.
