I carefully scrapped the foam from the top of the black plastic grill, used some small pop rivets to attach the lids then restuck the foam on top and looks like factory!

can anyone post pics of the finish they get? I've been using White knight glass stain & White Knight crystal clearcoat. Was thinking a carpainter might be able to get a more professional gloss finish with the clearcoat, as i really don't like the finish i get. it looks like when you see "smoked" tail lights but its just a ghetto stocking pulled over the light, not that nice shiny glass look.

So Ive got all red tail lights on my f/l e30 similar to the pic below - I do them myself with glass stainer and clearcoat from bunnings. They allways look great when they've just been done, but tend to fade and have a matt appearance, sick of re-painting them once a year and wanted to know if there is anyone out there that has a. done this properly b. is a car painter and can give me an idea of what to use/who to see to stain them properly and get a decent gloss clearcoat over the top. c. know where i can buy these (not the crystal style available on trade me) Im in Auckland Popped into some random panelbeater on a whim the other day and the guy litterally couldn't get his head around why I wanted this done, and was a bit of a d*ck tbh. rather than waste anymore time picking through painters thought id ask here? cheers! )

my gf likes the 325 but she can't drive it. She also thinks the MTech 2 going on will make it look less like a "classic" car, but i think she'll just have to get used to it

@Riley, absolutely, Ive been shopping around and had some complete retards on the other end of the line. Even though I shouldnt have said it, I rang vero, and when they asked why i left state i told them (Noob) that State wouldnt insure me with my wheels, and they instantly said that if i have been refused insurance by state they wouldnt insure me either. So i got a little fired up and tried to explain how rediculous this whole situation was, so she said the underwriter "didnt like the sound of my story" which made it (me) worse again, then she proceeded to tell me it was just Vero's policy not to insure ANY vehicle AT ALL that has been modified in ANY way." Bullsh*t. anyway, a couple of hours on hold with all the major insurers later, Im with tower now for a decent amount, good prem and excess, so im happy. I reckon if you started an Insurance company that actually WANTED to insure people, You'd be rich.

So I saved my pennies and after a wee while of deliberation bout myself some shiny new Alpina replicas for my little german princess. (89 325i) Thinking, responsibly, that I should call my insurer, of 4 years (fully insured, 27 years old, no criminal/driving offenses, with no claims whatsoever) and let them know, I call state insurance. bad idea. The abridged conversation went as follows: Me: "Hi, i just bought some new wheels for my car, and thought I should let you know..." State: "okay sure, how much were they and what size?" Me: "17 inch and approx $800." State: "Sorry sir we are no longer insuring your vehicle. Is there anything else i can help you with?" Me: "..." They actually cancelled my insurance over a set of $800 wheels because "the cars with the flash wheels get stolen" thats actually what she said. Were not talking 3k chrome spinners here, just some tidy nice looking cheap wheels. They then sounded surprised when i pulled my contents insurance with them to take my money somewhere else. State: "well we hope we can do business again in the future sir." Me: "Unf**king likely." / end rant

Im talking about the 3 piece Foam/Rubber than sits on the underside of the bonnet, after 20 years it starts looking a bit ratty to say the least. BMW charges around $400-500 last time i checked but I've been told you can but a few metres of similar stuff from Para Rubber or similar for alot less, I'm a lil concerned any old stuff might melt/warp with the temp? Has anyone tried this or knows of a good substitute for the original foam/rubber? thanks
