I did my PPL back in the day with Waitemata Aero Club at Ardmore and at Kaipara Flats. Back then the way to CPL was by PPL - CPL at a club, log free hours instructing (get paid a pittance, but at least you get log book time) then hope for a chance at Coconut Palm Airways or the like. Air NZ wouldn't look at you 'till you'd lived through a couple of years flying clapped out old twins in Vanuatu etc. Nowadays the more popular route is the University way, but I still reckon you can't go past the old way of doing it. Talk to your local club and see what they reckon. I still miss it sometimes, but in the end, when the family came along it just got too expensive to keep current so I had to give it away......sigh.

Yeah thanks, I haven't even looked at it - just hooked the rope to my ute and dragged him home, but I'm wondering whether it might just have snapped off a selector fork or something - which would explain why it was as unspectacular as he said. Here's hoping anyhow.

Yeah, that's what I would have thought, although if your reverse gate spring is getting weak it can (and obviously does!) happen. The closest I ever got to it was driving my 351 XD Panelvan back in the day and forgetting I was in the auto not the manual, coming to a corner I went for the old downshift, stamped on the brake and slipped the trans up into reverse. Just about forward rolled the thing and I sure was suddenly wide awake.Could you even get the car into reverse... the last time I tried putting a car anywhere near reverse whilst moving forward very slowly it didn't like it and growled at me

No, it's his car (My son's e36 328)LOL , another reason why not to lend cars

It's obviously "box out" day tomorrow, I just wondered whether anyone knew if it was likely to be a complete strip down (or more likely, a new box) or is there a shear pin type gizmo that may have just let go on the input shaft?
-
Yeah I guess. Apparently it was quite unspectacular, just a quick "pop" then nothing.

By the way, "Hypothetically" has a name, and it's not me - but I have just towed said hypothetical car back home......
-
Hypothetically speaking, what would break if someone were to engage reverse at 100km? Getrag 220

Can confirm my last tank of gas i got 59.6L and 607km so better than 10L/100km in a manual 328i with auto diff and not trying for a fuel mileage record by any stretch of the imagination.

My car is so hot inside like when all windows are closed it hot I feel as the air con is on when it isn't like where my feet are.
and also is
the obc known to have hot air come out because I feel something hot come out there ?
Dear BadBM. I think your car may be on fire.
I suggest you exit immediately and retreat to a safe distance.

The funny thing is he has "His M3" - and his is an M3, a real one, red like a fire engine. They lve at Omaha. I guess he sold her on the idea of matching cars(!) and she hasn't noticed that his is just that little wee bit faster and cost just a couple of bucks more...."HER M3" on a e46 318ti. Made me so angry

Just noticed I posted this on my son's account. It was me, not him. Oh well, c'est la vie.Any "uprate" to your cam will give you a payoff in some rev ranges but affect you elsewhere as well. A 272 will give you slightly better mid range and top end power, but you will pay for it in fuel consumption, and at the bottom end, i.e, torque off the line - the power you most feel in normal road car driving. The consensus seems to be (and I looked into this pretty long and hard when I built the 2.7 in my e30) that factory standard is pretty good, and without some serious porting and improving the flow of the head, and going to aftermarket rockers and uprated springs etc a better cam may not really add much to an M20 (although it will make it idle nice and lumpy). If you want the cheapest option and best bang for your buck, the factory standard cam from an early M20b23 is slightly higher lift than the one in b20/b25/b27 motors and that's what I ended up using. Of course the purists will argue that you can get significant gains with a 272 or better, and you can, you just won't notice it until you hit about 4500RPM. Which is nice, and sounds great, but if you end up having to give it a boot full of revs to get off the line it makes you look a bit try-hard, especially if you're in traffic. Worth a crack though for a bit of fun, especially if you can get one cheap.
My 2 cents worth.....

Ha ha - I wonder if he'll be sober this time. I remember one other time he played here and he was so trashed he could hardly stand, let alone perform.

Had the same problem - The bonnet pins have slotted ends to take a flat bladed screwdriver. I managed to get a screwdriver up through the hole from underneath with the kidney grills out and just unwind the bonnet pin from the bonnet. Easy peasy, as I recall.

Who owns the stunning Black e30 M3 pulling out of Puhoi onto SH1 this afternoon? I was the guy in the convertible who almost drove off the road......
Also saw Pjay's e36 on the Harbour Bridge early Friday afternoon. I had to cover my eyes and look away 'coz the fluoro rims were burning my retinas. Looked good though.....

The strut tops are about 20mm offset, they look to be to rectify castor, my camera is dead at the moment.
Any idea on the cost of getting them rebuilt/tested?
So the change in castor will do what to the handling?
Edit; whoops dads account
