Traded my manual E34 535i in for a Steptronic E39 528i last week. I was abit concerned about. 1 The power of the 528i. 2 Not being a manual. I need not have worried. The car feels every bit as responsive as the old 535i and handles like a dream. I can drive it in auto in traffic, flick across for sports mode if I feel like some fun, or use the steptronic if I'm having fun on the hills. I do agree with Cain that Manuals are the best, but as I'm sure your all aware the ratios of BMW auto's to manuals is not great. Its the only steptronic box I've driven and once you get the hang of it its not bad.

Having a wee day dream about my next car which I'll get this time next year. Has anybody had the chance to drive or own either of this two. We have a 328i touring which is a great car although its my wife's and rarely do I get the chance to take it out alone and give it a bit of stick, its also an auto which I'm not into. Cheers Moose

I bought my 1989 E34 535i 18mths ago for $9900. Its a five speed manual with 195000 miles on the clock, 18 inch mags and full leather with sports kit. Its a fantastic car. I'll be selling next year and going to an E36 M3 evo as I will not need the bigger car then. If your looking for a 535i, there is normally a few around in manual, shouldn't have to pay more than $10 unless its mint. Parts are easy to find on Trade me and wreakers. E30 - Great cars unless your 2 mtrs tall like me, had a 325i, which was cool but cramp. E36 - My wife has a 96 328i touring which is also a great car. 7's - Don't know much but I wouldn't want to pay the gas bill or park them in town. Good luck and be patient!
