  1. Hi people, I had a new head unit installed at a car audio place. 3 days later I had a flat battery. I ended up buying a new battery but yesterday my car didnt want to start until I took the headunit face off. Then it worked. Before I go back to the car audio place, do you guys and girls think they wired it some-how wrong?
  2. Its a sedan. I have had another email from Oz (Perth) who do a CSL M3 Kit for e46 sedans. Its 5 layer fibre glass but that still frightens me a little. I have seen what happens to fibre glass after a while, cracking and getting fragile. Still its an option. I like the thought of the RIEGER KIT. Thats the one the cat from Trade me is selling. Has anyone else imported kits from Europe or does anyone know if anyone does? Cheers again
  3. No one loves me I have found a few places that can do kits in NZ and Oz. Has anyone here had one put on and who do you trust as the best. Pros and Cons. With the car I have, I want it to look as mint as I can but not too "boy Racerish" I still want it to look like it has some kind of style. Look guys, I would appreciate any imput. I have searched this forum and a few others but would rather hear from a kiwi on how things went and where to go. Me and a few guys can put and tweek the kits to make em fit but getting a non- fibre glass one and a stylish one is kind of hard in the NZ. Trade me has a few. Infact there is one cat on trade me who imports kits and seems to have good 'tarde me' feedback. Anyone have any suggestions?
  4. Yeah, I got it for a reasonable price. Does need a re-spray. It looks as if someone has sprayed a little acid on the car. It has not been etched but does leave what looks like droplets from rain (rain stains) and even on some of the windows. I still have not figured out what it is yet but figured with all my oher cars I have re-sprayed or painted the car anyway. However I do like the color and original style of BMW. In regards to the electrical stuff. Yep, I totally agree. I had a 98 Caldina GTT that I got from Darwin in Oz and although the engine was in good nik, most of the electrical parts were shot. Still, it was just replacing somthing. Everytime you buy a car you need to get things done to it. Thanks for the replys.
  5. Just upgraded the original post. Cheers
  6. Cheers guys, I went into the local BMW store (Palmy). I have booked in next week to have the airbag looked at but had another mechanic fix the lights and do a general service. Got a few other minor things that may need done in the future (belts, front brakes and a leaking gasket). Now the only concern is that airbag light. I am used to older cars (last car was an EH Holden wagon and before that an LX Torana). When doing them up it was no biggie with regulations and stuff but with the Bimmer, I have a few challenges ahead. Hey, thanks for all the advice, its greatly appreciated.
  7. Awesome, cheers mate. I feel better now.
  8. Hi people, I have another question. Actually a few. First, my right headlight has stopped yesterday. I figured it may need a new bulb and can wait till pay day but... Today, when I started my car this morning the warning light in the dash that shows an image of the car and the headlight. This warning indicator had both lights displayed. Just before I started home from work I took a look to see what lights were working and I have one main headlight on the right side working and only one secondary light working on the left side. Last night I drove over a huge pot hole that the rain had washed into the road, could this have done anything? Do I need new bulbs? or GOD FORBID... is it an electrical problem with the wireing? I have had a look on trade me and see there are some "after market" front lights, side lights and tail lights that look kind of cool. I was planning on doing the car (1998 e46 318i) up anyway. Has anyone installed these onto their cars? Money is not too much of an issue as I planned to do the entire car up over the next 6 months. The other thing is that now my airbag light has come on also. Any advice is appreciated. I know there are a few of you in the know who may be able to help. I have had this car for about a month and brought it as a project but didnt expect the project to start like this. Cheers Damian
  9. I am currently searching for options for my 318i e46 1998. Do the kits fit all e46 318i's from 1998 to 2005? Anyone know? Cheers
  10. Hi guys and gals. I have been looking at this forum for a while now although I joined only recently. It was during research on "what type of car to buy next" that I first stumbled upon your community. It was also through reading the threads here and the know-how of many of you that influenced me to purchase my next project car. A little over a week ago I purchased a 1998 318i sedan E46. So now the project begins. The car is an import from Singapore and the sun had made a few marks on some areas but that makes the project all so interesting. I have had a few project cars in the past and done quite well with them. Never owned a bimmer before and becasue all the people today are playing with Japanese toys I thought I would take it Euro. I must say that the drive home from Auckland to Palmerston North was the most comfortable ride I have ever made in that direction. Next week I have a new sterio headunit going in (thanks to some of the guys here). After that its mags (again, thanks to a member from here and their Palmy branch). The car needs a respray and some of the windows seem to have some kind of wax or etching on them. Got to figure out how to fix them but will do in time. Any ideas would help. I dont think I want to lower it as it is beautiful to drive as is. Although with 18" mages and the right kit, it will look great and still feel beautiful. Regarding kits, I have searched a few (any of you imported bimmer kits before? and if so, advice is appreciated). About me... Im 35 years old, work as an interior designer have a wonderful woman and two beautiful daughters. EDIT- UPGRADE Images aint the best. Its night time and I ran out and took a few photos. There are some things that some of the guys here may be able to help me with. Mags have been put off for a little while. Reason being, I want to get the right ones once the rest of the car is done. Last time I got mags I spent about $2500 so dont want to waste that type of money on the wrong ones. There are some good fronts I can get for it. One chap on trade me does a good deal and I have searched for a few other places. BMW said it would cost about $2000 to get a 2001 e46 sport front and thats like twice the price of kit fronts. Anyone know who or where to contact, let me know. I am keen on doing a total kit (full body) but need to find a Kiwi or Oz dealer doing them. I also need a re-spray or new paint job. Re-spray I can get for about $1200 and a full color change is about $3000 to $3500 from the local auto painters. If I get a color change I am currently looking at the new Gunmetal by ford. It has blues and greens under light. Looks nice. Candy colors too but still deciding on color. Any imput or examples are totally welcome. I have had the engine done over the past few weeks. Everything is sweet and a few things done. May look at some tuning later in the year. What can be done with a 318i? Its a few months off but again. Any insight is greatly appreciated. I may post questions regarding this in the forums but contact me if you all can help. Cheers Damian
  11. Hi mate, yeah, I brought it a few weeks back. I needed a new project and the BMW seemed to be the best option. I would have been dead keen on taking a look at your ride mate but just a few weeks too late. I aint to good with luck. Cheers anyway
  12. Thanks guys, I must be the type of stupid fool this person was aiming at. I have emailled the seller and stopped the payment and stuff. Hopefully it wont make my trade me rep bad but the seller did mis inform me. I am still keen on getting a cd or mp3 player in my car working. The volume/ on off knob is also broken. It works but you can pull it off without any trouble. Getting this replaced may take a bit so I guess I will get a new sterio. Is there a plate that fits the bmw around standard car sterios? It wont stop my air con, climate control from working will it? Thanks again for the help and advice.
  13. Just to add I had a look and its a 1998 318i e46. cheers again
  14. This is what was written on the CD stacker I brought from Trade Me. This stacker will suit the following cars: golf polo wrx evo rx7 rx8 mx5 sp23 6 gt gti gtt gtr gt4 gts tt skyline turbo mag alloy 300z 350z legacy rs altezza b4 blitzen forester bluebird maxima passat x5 x3 awd 4wd mr2 accord civic sti swift 318 525 728i 730i 740i 750i cube stream 206 307 406 407 vvti boxster vtec v-tec vw suv subaru mitsubishi bmw mercedes s320 s280 s350 s500 s430 s600 s55 AMG mazda toyota windom levin suzuki honda holden ford bagged lowered body kit getz sonata volkswagon audi nissan celsior porsche peugeot rover volve jeep jaguar lexus ls460 ls400 is200 es300 audi a4 a6 a8 corolla camry avalon beetle s type x type holden If it doesnt work its all good. I am still interested in maybe getting a new head unit from another brand, but how would it fit on without damaging the climate control. How would it look too, is there a plate that fits standard head units into the allocated space. And if so, where to buy em. Cheers for all your help people
  15. Cheers, yeah it as the buttons for the CD but when I pushed em it said something about stacker unlocated. I guess it was nicked when it was imported. Seller just said it had a built in sterio and my stupidness forgot to check the cd. Still, I love the car and this is just a minor glitch. I just got a cd stacker (Sony) from trade me but after reading the questions I just found out it has no cartrage... how lucky am I... not? Still, it will be a start and someting to play with if I use it or not. I dont care too much for the state of the art sound system. Just something to play CDs or stuff while cruising with my kids. Some of the guys here have normal car sterios in the area where the factory one sits. How does that work out? Do you need to purchase a plate that houses non factory systems? The radio works fine but the on-off, volume knob is a bit old looking so replacing the entire thing sounds like a good option.
  16. I think so, In all honesty I dont know. I will need to grab the ownership papers out. It has the headlights with the shaped look as opposed to the square look if thats any help. Just had a look on the registration and all it has is 318i.
  17. Hi people, this is my first post on your fantastic forum. I have read most of the posts and found some really helpful advice and links... and ideas. Last week, I brought a new car and this time I went Bimmer. Love the car but still dont know much about it. Was imported from Singapore and still in good nik for a decade old. I am gonna be asking a few questions over the next while but here is the first. The car seems to have no CD stacker. I have searched the car and cannot find it. Reading here that its suppost to be in the boot, I took a look but only found a battery. So, my question now is do I need a BMW CD stacker or will another one do the trick...or How do you fit another car sterio in without damaging the climate control thing? I am keen for ideas guys. All advice is good advice. Cheers
