I did this aswell when I first got mine

1. Open car with key

2. Get in and close the door

3. Turn ignition to pos 1 briefly (max 5 secs) then off

4. Take key out, hold down unlock on remote and press the lock button 3 times within 10 secs

5. Release the unlock button

The car should then lock and unlock itself if this works, if not try again.

yea i ended up finding this process ... tried it multiple times and no go , yes i am pointing key at mirror when i do it . i dont see why seems to work for everyone else. Maybe i need to feed the little German man in the glovebox or something first.

E36 '96 Remote Key

My IR remote that is built into my key was working, until i took the batteries out to see what size they were, now the car does not respond to the remote but the light on the key still works.

I assume i need to reinitialize the remote but cannot find any procedures to do so (other than ones for cars with an alarm ... which mine doesn't, tried this anyway and didn't work)

Any pointers would be great.

Could still be the second hand tap or the control unit. Easier to take the tap off and check to see if the diaphrams have collapsed and check switching operation with the tap still connected electrically.

another point to add is that the heater tap is hot to the touch once the car has been running, not sure if this implys coolant is going through it or not?

Did you fit a new heater tap or a 2nd hand one ??? What temperature does the engine run at and do you have any coolant loss issues ??

2nd hand Supplied and installed by Ray, was working fine for just under a week. No coolant loss issues, temp on dash always stays dead on half way once it has warmed up.

main problem is it has stopped blowing hot at all (again)

secondary problem/suspicion is that when i set it to a hot temp in auto mode it doesn't seem to think its necessary to increase the fan speed which it normally would.

edit: i can manually increase the fan speed however

Mine was an import as well. May depend on the software version of your unit.

yea i did find that but when i try on mine (pressing auto and rear window defogger) it doesnt do anything ... have tried with car on and off and holding them for long and short periods of time, so don't know why it isnt bringing anything up ... googling around revealed that a few other people wern't able to to get it to come up either.

So i had my heater valve replaced during the week and it was working great up until Saturday night.

Now the issue i'm having is its not blowing hot air, but it seems like the control unit rather than the heater tap because when in auto mode and set to 32 deg. it does not seem to think it is necessary to turn up the blower (even tho it is freezing).

Having said that when i manually put the heater on it doesn't blow hot either, which would imply the heater tap has issues again.

any ideas?

got done for these last year ... fine and demerits, and that was with fake euro plates that were actually the NZ style with NZ flag on one side and fern on the other ... said that they came with the car and i had no idea ... he didn't buy it. He actually looked for the holographic watermarking.

mine does this sometimes too .... i have found taking the spring out and puting it back in or simply giving it a good slam shut fixes it.

Only if you use non stock parts and/or have the driveshaft lengthened.
