Got it fixed thanks to Brent at BM World, turned out to be a dead control module rather than fsr. thanks for all the info and BIG thanks to Brent.

I have this problem where the heater fan is running constantly even when the key is removed from the ignition and the aircon display is totally dead. this happened very suddenly after getting out of the car last night. to stop the fan from draining the battery I have disonnnected the battery. can anyone give me some tips as to what the problem might be? and how can I isolate the fan in the meantime?
-
Hey thanks, that looks like the one but I thought it was for the transmission as we don't use the air and this fan starts up when the transmission gets loaded up, like when I'm towing. Must be an auxiliary fan eh??

can anyone give me the part number for the transmission cooling fan for an e39. i have looked on realoem but it is not shown as a part. has anyone changed this without taking the bumper off as the manual says to do?? cheers

Was wondering if anyone has or can give me the part number for the transmission cooling fan for an e39. mine has broken off one of the vanes and when it starts up makes an awful racket. I have looked on the realoem site but does not show it as a part. Also any tips for changing it without having to take off the bumper, as it says in the repair manual. cheers

any idea if this is available for purchase in NZ and does this use the plugs from the cd changer in the boot??
-
Yeah been doing some online research and there seems to be 3 or 4 options, a, go the whole hog and get a Dynavin but this seems an extravagance just to get what I want. b, get the DICE unit but will only play using an ipod as source. c, the one I'm leaning toward is the Grom unit but it would appear that these are only available from the states, if something goes wrong and all that??. d, this http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=442545282 but the seller doesnt seem to know whether it will do the job. e, a unit called Anycar which appears to be the same thing as the DMC. As I said I am leaning towards the Grom unit, has anyone got one or had any experience with one??

I have an E39 wagon and am wanting to know if ti is possible to hook up an MP3 player to the AV inputs of the standard tuner, and if so how do I go about it. ie, I take it that the AV input is on the head unit itself?? and how does the unit come out of the dash?? any help on this is appreciated cheers.

cheers for advice have tried PAL Europe with limited success, I presume that it helps if you are line of sight with the transmitter?? where I live in AK is not very good for TV reception. Another thing, I suppose these TV's will not work when the analogue is switched off next year??

Have just purchased Jap E39 Touring and cant seem to get TV tuned in. Is there something that needs to be reset to get it to tune NZ TV or is it the missing aerial on the roof??

hey guys just an update to let you know, those who are interested, seem the problem turned out to be not enough transmission fluid. apparently it was put on the computer and no faults showed up. and just an aside, the car may be for sale. the missus think we dont need 2 cars atm so we are thinkin about selling the beemer and keeping the subi for towing the 'ski. if anyones interested let us know and I'll post some pics. cheers p

took for a long drive this morning after I "reset" the trans ie turn on ignition and floor the accelerator and wait 30 secs, didnt hear the clunk, anyway took for drive and the thing performed ok with no hesitation at all so I dunno what the problem is. btw it has always had the "flaring" between 2nd and 3rd since we've had it. didnt really think too much of it until I started reading about it on here. anyway my wife talked to the workshop and they are going to "put it on the computer" and I will also mention about resetting the "codes". cheers for all the suggestions, really appreciate it

had the auto serviced on the wife's '96 323i coupe and now when she slows to almost a stop, like a giveway, then accelerates the thing hesitates before clunking into first. it seems to do this most of the time now but I experimented earlier this evening and found that it doesn't do it if 4th is selected rather than 5th. haven't tried either the sport or snow mode to see if that makes any difference. what I would like to know is this in any way related to the "Jatco Jerk" I have been reading about here or is it something completely different? also is it worth having the tranny recoed or is cheaper to have a conversion to manual done, and where, if a conversion is the preferred option can I have that done? hoping you guys can help me out here the missus is not too happy atm. cheers

Thanks for the link Mark, I hadn't seen that one

Like the e39, cooling systems dont last well but not hugely expensive to replace Rotty, do you mean the water pump as in the E36 or are you refering to something else, like the radiator??

Hi people, I am thinking of buying an E38 7 series and was wanting to get info from the knowlegable folk here on which is the best engine for power versus reliability versus economy, although I'm not too concerned about fuel consumption. Also I have read on US sites that the V8 motor has a problem with sulpher in the petrol. Is this an issue in NZ? Is the 6 cylinder engine up to hauling around 2 tonnes of motorcar? Also is there any other mechanical or electrical faults with this model that need to be checked? Any comments are most welcome, cheers.

Yeah I got a new one, is $111 expensive???, will chuck it in on the weekend.

Hi thanks for all the replys about the noise but I have investigated properly and found that it is the idler pulley attached to the front of the alternator. the bearing is very noisey but I took it out of the car and bathed it in crc and it is no longer noisey. I will put a new one in of course but now that I know what it is there is no urgency.
-
no nothing like that sound
-
not a wheel bearing , its noisey when its not moving, cheers
