For stubborn minerals/rust/salt/lime/scum I have found Clean-X Cream Cleanser to work great and does not damage the surface. Needs some elbow grease but good product. I get it through the local glass shop.

Where might one buy the locks for a seat belt? Or is there a trick to do it with the stock belt? This would certainly help for club track days as I really slide around a lot in the E36 leather seats even on the street through the twisties.

Blaupunkt Standard Radios?
volcanoblack replied to volcanoblack's topic in Audio & In Car Entertainment
Rogan, I am trying to do this on a budget and putting a few CD's in the stacker is easy since I don't listen to it that much and it still works fine. MP3/iPod would be nice but probably more hassle and money than I am willing to spend. You're right about the tape player - but if it is part of the stacker head unit I don't mind. Under $100 for the head unit and $50 to install is my price range. Thanks. -
Blaupunkt Standard Radios?
volcanoblack replied to volcanoblack's topic in Audio & In Car Entertainment
Brent, Is that a photo of your car in signature? Snow in Auckland? Nice pinstripes, although your car listings say it is an "alipna" Thanks for the recommendation - I am looking at that newer trademe unit and if I can figure out that when it is on if it does not have blue lights all over it, then I will probably buy it. Cheers. -
Blaupunkt Standard Radios?
volcanoblack replied to volcanoblack's topic in Audio & In Car Entertainment
Thanks Brent - great post. Do I need to replace my unit with a Sony model only? Or can I put in something else like you mention the BMW/Alpina or maybe a Blaupunkt - unless they aren't any good nowadays. I am such novice when it comes to car stereo - I know next to nothing. Would you recommend the third trademe listing you posted? Seems like a cheap way to fix my problem. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.as...;rewritten=true Would it be best to take the used unit to a car audio shop to have it installed? I have no tools for soldering wires and my fingers are claustrophobic anywhere near the insides of a dashboards. Thanks also Nathan - I'll try hamish -
What were the standard Blaupunkt radios that came in the 1993 E36 cars with CD changers in the trunk?. My car has a BMW/Sony unit. How about posting photos of your radio and maybe where they might be purchased. This is precipitated by my need to probably get a new unit for my car. Thanks all. Note to Jochen: I have had no luck whatsoever in finding anyone to replace the bad capacitors inside the radio as you suggested.

E36 squawking sound when turned off
volcanoblack replied to volcanoblack's topic in Audio & In Car Entertainment
Jochen - thanks, any suggestions on how I find a place to do this in the Nelson, South Island, area? -
I have a terrible squawk/screech when I turn off the radio, turn off the CD or just shut the car off when the radio is on. Just today I noticed that one of the rear speakers has not working all the time - was on and off for a bit. Any ideas what could be wrong? It's a '93 325i sedan E36. I have a 10 disk changer in the trunk and this unit on the dash with removeable face plate. I know nothing about car stereos so please keep your answers in layman's terms I can understand. If I need to replace anything, I am open to suggestions. I do want to keep the BMW style radio/faceplate and speakers must fit into the original locations. I do not like all the blue lights and blinking things on aftermarket radios, rather prefer the look that I have. When it is all working the sound is fine with me so I don't need to spend tons of money on a fancy upgraded system. Something about the same would be fine, minus the screeching, of course. Thanks

Found - E36 Floating Rotors 286x22
volcanoblack replied to volcanoblack's topic in Brakes, Suspension & Steering
I have received an email from Gavin at Euro-Italilan, he can get these rotors for $400 + GST each as part of a normal stock order. -
Here's an update, No price break for ordering 5 of the JT Design panels. We would need to order 15 to get the distributor pricing which is $78 USD. They can come five in a box weighing 25 pounds and the box is 33"x18"x5". I would estimate the shipping to be about $200NZD = $40 each. Here is another underpanel that I like a lot since it is plastic and would probably work better during a low speed front end impact - say running into a wall when parking. Anyway, here is a link to the Bimmerworld SSI underpanel and photo. SSI Underpanel edit: updated link

The JT Design comes in two main flat pieces with the vertical baffle as the third part - that's why I thought it would be cheaper to get shipped here rather than the one big piece of the Motion Motorsports. I would think that stacking 5 of these into one box would be considerably cheaper than sending five separately, hence the idea of a group buy. If more people would like the MM piece, then lets look at that for a group buy. Interested parties? Cheers,

What solutions has everyone used to replacing the front under panel on the E36. The original plastic panel on mine is completely gone (from when I bought the car). What has everyone used to upgrade or replace their panels? Has anyone tried the JT Designs aluminum? http://jtdesigns.stores.yahoo.net/alunpan.html Who would be interested in trying to get a group buy going on this? Cheers.

Found - E36 Floating Rotors 286x22
volcanoblack replied to volcanoblack's topic in Brakes, Suspension & Steering
I just checked how much shipping would be by placing an order (then canceling before payment - as suggested by Schmiedmann) 171 euro = $356 NZD This is a bit more than I expected. Add this to the parts cost of euro269 ($561NZD) and we get a grand total of euro 451.28 = $941 NZD. Gavin (Euro-Italian) - is this the price you would be looking at to get these? Thanks.
