  2. Hey guys, that was me in the red car which was fast catching up on Brent in the first pic showing me and then catching him a second time in the later pic of me fast coming at him again. Ha ha, perhaps not quite like that but it was his 'good kind' wife taking those pics. And yeah, if you guys want to skill up so you can keep to an E36 328 or a M3 kicking red E28 (I passed one, film to prove it) then get yourselves to the Driver Training days.

    Racing Ray got a further 2 or 3 secs off my time around Taupo. In some ways I like it better than Hampies. I just wish Taupo track was nearer Ak.


  3. Do you really have to sell one of these?? Just build up your garage a bit more and keep them both. But if worst came to worst then the shark would be the one to keep.

    Why: It looks great, it's rare, it can be discretly built up to out drive your E34 using origional BMW parts, it is more of an interest car due to it being the classic look, it will appreciate in value, would show that you're more of an enthuisiest (wrong spelling), you don't have a heap of kids so don't need a 4 door. So there you go.


  4. My E28 M535 was the test car on Saturday to try out these new breaks of Martys and see if they do actually just bolt on and how they preform. I had replaced the standard breaks a year ago with 540i front and rear breaks. That showed great gains but step up from there by at least double again and you are close to what I experienced when we bolted on Martys bracket and BIG front breaks. I had to re learn to use less foot pressure to slow down as these breaks are really effective, I was slinging myself forwards in the seat when I hit the breaks hard. My previous upgrade was good but these breaks are awsome. If you want to reduce lap times then good breaks are essential. I am not sure what alternatives are available, probably none as wild and effective as these. My recomendation, get some now. I certainally am going on Martys list of buyers.


  5. Yep, I've seen him there; stands around looking perplexed and bamboozled by the task he's set himself. Really, he's checking if Marty or any of Martys trusty staff are watching, then he whips out this pipe and hooks up to any near by gas tank and drains it. Then rattles a few spanners for a while till the coast is clear again. Could take a while to get this 'project' completed me thinks. Lol.


  6. Hey, that's only under 3 weeks away!!

    Hey guys, To all of you have replied to my topic re various days out on Puke over the next few weeks, it looks like Saturday 23rd of May is looking hot for at least 5 or more of us.

    Please add your comments re coming out on this day as it could be a great chance to meet up with other Bimmersport guys and gals and for only $90.00 you can spend the whole day at the track, race your car for 20 minute bursts throughout the day. Now is that great value or what!?

    The $90.00 is what it costs to get offically out on the track.

    I have been out there a good few times since last December and it represents a great opportunity to eithe show your stuff or develop your talent and managing a car well around NZ's most famous track.

  8. Hey that is great news David. Now you and Brent can both have M5 motors. You may be in for a surprise next time you pit your lightened E28 against his tight good handling car. May be good timing to get that engine installed.


  9. just got back from down the line.

    very happy with this vehicle,probably the tidiest car we've owned,beemer wise.

    this one will be the wifes.wheels have been listed in the F/S section as

    they are begging to be curbed.got other 17" to go on.(e39 spoky oem's)

    built in '93,reg'd in '94 with 190 odd K's.

    engine has had a 100% rebuild 15 K's ago.not sure if thats a good thing,but averaged 10.3L/100km's

    on the way back from Blehiem to AKLD.no rattles,rumbles,knocks etc.

    interior is light grey,and yes has arm rests.most important.also traction control,just incase

    it gets tricky in the pak'n'save carpark.

    ed, yes lost the rear badge on the way back,and no it wasnt cause of

    higher speed levels-too many cops

    Now that's a nice car. I hope it continues to go great. And the fuel economy is surprising since its a v8 but I suppose you drove it nicely back which proves what people have said about V8's being not too bad on gas if you drive carefully.

    Hey Creaver, yes you missed out on a good day. We met at Greenlane McD's then headed down the motorway to Manurewa turnoff and headed out to Clevedon, then to Kawakawa bay, Orere point and on out to Kaiawa where we all stopped and had fish and chips and other things for lunch. Then out to Miranda and inland to alot of really neat back roads which bought us onto Ponga Rd behind Papakura. We were back home before 4pm but had a solid time driving, chatting and comparing cars. And got to know a few more faces and names too.

    It was great. I hope Zac is keen to organise another day like this before the year is up.


  11. Yep mate, this is all good but will it mean that you can now remove your smoke screen defence system you installed which was to stop you being overtaken by 318's and the like. I mean, one day you gotta look at the valve guides or something ay. Or onsell the motor to me cheap and I will review this feature you have been utilizing with low effectiveness for some time now. And fix the cigarette lighter. :D


  12. Wow, these pics are great, especially seeing those rare pics of that square rigger racey red E28, I bet that was quick around the corners. I wasn't so fussed on all those new things there as they are so common these days, nice however. Good to see some oldies coming out, including yourself. :P

    but i have been in glenn's car this week , and its pretty good now (pretty quick going up clevedon rd) quicker than my e36 325i 5spd coupe but maybe not quite there with a silver surfer ;) , with a few more laps under his belt , he will be knocking on your door of your red rat rod.. :lol:

    I wonder if a small block 2.8 car can ever keep up with a tight E28. Still, alot boils down to driver ability and if you have had your brave pill that morning also. It was a good day on Sunday and you should check out the pics Helen posted for us all to look at. Its under news section.


  14. Its OK Brent... I can handle a wind up ^_^ as for the suspension... Bisteins & H&R's 328 sway bar... how does that compare to a Nissan Primera ?? :wacko: The car's not a dedicated race car, its a fun car and surprises many with the performance factor it has now. As for a boot... I dont need a place to store nappies & prams now... so I dont need it. Ian might need a boot though....for storing spare parts and his tool kit... these I dont need either. :P

    I'm more than happy with what I have now.....and thats what it's all about....the enjoyment factor.

    As for my track driving ability.... I've said it before... that was the first time ever I've been on a track... and the unpredictability of the "slush box" was making me very cautious & nervous... however, I had some fun & enjoyed it... didnt break anything (appart from the "slush box) which I knew had limited life, nor did I hit anyone.. so that cant be all that bad

    Yeah, fair comments by the both of you. I do enjoy the chance to sling off with the greatest of respect to the both of you as we are all still learning many things about our cars and individual driving abilities. As for the losely used term of Silver Surfer Mr Brent, your quaint grey shaded E28, intermixed with the odd orange and brown dots (and dents), needs a severe make over before I ever link the term silver with your car.

    It would have been great to have your car already for a drive last Sunday Glenn, this would have worked out a few bugs the car may have had and honed your driving ability and quickness still further. At any rate, Brents slipery sublime smoker was interesting to watch as it pitched itself around a few corners (if only visible for brief moments due to the smoke it was producing).

    I hope there is another Friday open day we all can get out to together along with this David L character with his lightweight E28.


  15. Agree Cam, I'll be running a 3.46 in mine with a 1 to 1 top as a dedicated race car. Although I think the 3.15 will suit Glenn just fine.

    Yeah, how is it David, heard you were getting on with some great lap times the other week. I am keen to mix it up with you again soon when you get out to another Friday open day at Puke. I have a few more tricks to employ now to keep up with ya. B)


  16. As most of you know, I'm doing a manual conversion on my car. I assumed (bad word) that the Getrag 250G that I'm using was an overdrive gearbox... it's not.Ive checked it.. 5th gear is 1:1. Now that means I have to look at diff ratios. At the moment I'm running a 364:1 which means in top gear at a 100kph the engine will be reving at 3,030. I dont want to go too tall... my choices are : 325:1 @ 2,718 rpm or a 315:1 @ 2,634rpm

    With the M52B28 and light flywheel I think the right choice is the 315:1 with the LSD. This ratio should give me a calculated top speed of 245 kph

    Am I right ??

    Hi there Glenn, it's Ian here. I was passing you multiple times a month or so ago when you had your car out there with that slush bucket auto and the suspension you must have nicked out of a Nissan Primera . :rolleyes: Yeah, swap the dif over fast and go for mid gearing. And with only a 'small block' 2.8 motor and your average driving ability (lol), I shouldn't imagine calculating a top speed of 245 kmh actually achieveable nor relavent. :P What you want is acceleration so that you can stand a chance of keeping up with proper BMW's which have 3.5 litre engines and boots. B)
