could you also see if you can get the driver side mirror( the glass only), the key rubbers for the key(remote), and rear bumper trim (its the model with pdc), i know bumper trims could be expensive due to sizethink these were around 240$ a pair , will need to double check tho the lights vary alot in price
mirror and tail light are must for my car, (both broken) bumper trim broken but not really that bad
it was the e38 (early model, 1994)
thanks again

Thanks again GlennThanks Glenn
i will think about it and let you know,
about the tail lights, i was checking some aftermarkets. what do you think about the aftermarkets ones?
by the way, how much are the sensors?
cheers
I will see how it goes. i have bought a second hand badge for now and will wait a little bit longer on the rest (money problem!)
i will however come and see you regarding the other problems the car has. the free play on the steering wheeel and also the air bag light. the airbag light switches off after few second like it is supposed to but then (after 1 second) it comes back on for about 2 minutes. it will then turns off and stay that way untill next time the car is switched off and on again
Would wednesday or thursday be ok?

Just be carefull...some aftermarket ones dont fit properly & leak..or crack. I'm at home..no price on sensors till Monday
Just ring dealer I'll do 10% less
thanks, dont worry about the sensors. i just checked them they all seems to be working(if im right, i think as long as they make that clicking noise, they are working? and they all do)
not too sure about aftermarkets then. it was online stores, so there is no return even if they are not the perfect fit
ill get back to you about the rest

For my new e38 (its the early e38)
I need the rear bmw badge, centre moulding for the rear bumper (the middle trim, the one that two parking sensors sit in), plus the driver side mirror( its only the glass that is at fault, the oil thingi in it is filling half the mirror, so the mirror is in two shades now) i think there is a crack on it but still looks fine if i can just get rid of that oil in it
can i use the old chrome mould on the new plastic mould?
Any advice/ price is appreciated
Cheers

looks like that it had it done at the same time when engine was replaced(3-4 years ago). I came down here in chch only for the summer. too much free time , and surffing the TM, i ended up swapping my vr6 golf with the 740. Its a nice car. Im a big fan of german cars.Welcome.I admired your car when it was on TM.
No doubt if you've been watching this forum you'll know to check out the cooling system if it hasnt already been replaced.
740's are soooo cool!!

ThanksYou need to identify the fault first...then proceed on costing, otherwise your only guessing. 90% of a good job is proper diagnosis first
will take the car to you if you have the time, however it will be end of feb or beginning of march as im now in christchurch and will get back to auckland by then
cheers

I have just purchased a 740i e38. Its my first BMW
I have long been a VW person. had golf mk2, mk3, vr6 etc
I have always used forums to get information for my VWs as im more like DIY type of person and im glad i have found the bimmersport
I love the car, however there are few problems with it will keep me busy for a while
the car has done quiet a lot (260ks) but has had an engine exchange done (a rmfd engine by bmw) about 4 years ago
It has a cool "740i" personlised number plate which im willing to sell if any one interested !
Some photos are attached

I recently bought an E38.
the steering seems to have more than normal free play.
firstly, does any one know how much free play is considered to be normal?
i have actually jacked the car and checked the wheels. there is the free play on both front wheels. can easily be noticed
what could be wrong?
thanks in advane
