Thanks you have been very helpful. I have found out the only semi-synthetic we do is 15w-40. Am I correct in assuming there is not a massive difference between 10w-40 and 15w-40?

Just the information I was looking for, couldn't find it in a search. Thanks. And to be clear, will our fuchs titan super GTO 10w-40 be suitable? I mean I know oil can't do that much damage but I want to be safe seeing as it is not my car I'm putting it in.

Hi there, a couple of questions Dad wants me to do a service on his wagon. I had a E34 525i of my own but thought with the later engine, dads wagon might require some things done differently. I work for BNT so part availability is no problem. Car: E39 528I Year: 2001 Kms: 78,000 First off, does anyone know what grade of oil to use, how much I will need, and should it be fully synthetic? Secondly, how can I tell if the transmission fluid will need changing or is it a lifetime type fluid? Anything I should watch out for when servicing it and what might be different from my E34?
