  1. Heh, you recognise my plate? Where abouts have you seen it? I am living in downtown Auckland atm -- I see you're central, too.
  2. I don't suppose you have airbags in your pillars or headliner, do you? Would it be any different with airbags in the pillars? (I have side curtain aribags in my A and C pillars.)

    F.S// 1993 540i e34

Hi all, I was the previous owner of this car. As is stated, it has been very well looked after (and it was in good nick when I sold it last year.) The car was in my family from 2000 to 2008 and since 100,000 clicks. Always serviced regularly and looked after. I had the bushes on both front shocks replaced not long ago to try to fix the shimmy with no luck. It may just be a problem with the step up to the E39 wheels, which would be an easy fix. (I almost wanna come around and see it again, myself!)
  4. Man! Alcantara headliner! That is such a $300k 760Li touch! (That's the only BMW I've ever seen a factory alcantara headliner in.) Looks super slick. Awesome job. Personally I'm not a fan of the dash accents in alcantara -- give me burled walnut or brushed aluminium any day. But I'm loving the work you did on the pillars, parcel tray and headliner. Did you take off the original fabric on the headliner first? If so, how easily did the original come off?
  5. I had a similar intermittent problem on my '93 540. I never did work out what the problem was! (Sorry!) It sounds like Brent is onto something. I'd be interested if you work this out. Let us know. Hey Mike, as for other strange sounds from the 540, do you hear the sound that comes from somewhere in the middle of the dash about 30 seconds after you turn the engine off? I always pondered what that sound was. It's like five short mechanical/electrical sounds, very faint, but audible if all else is quiet. The sound comes from near where the alarm LED flasher is.
  6. Hi everyone, I'm always keen to have a yack about cars and with what I own and what I'm interested in, this looks like the place to be. I've been living up in Auckland for five years now, but I'm originally a Rotorua native. My first BMW was a 1993 540i which I sold last year to someone (maybe on here?!) who got a great deal. It was getting on and I got sick of the stuff that was falling apart. I did love that car, though, and would have loved to have had the time, money and garage space to get it up to tip top shape. With the money from the 540 sale, my own personal savings and a university graduation gift from my parents, I shelled out for a 2000 530i Motorsport. It was produced after September in '00, so it's actually got '01 model year specs, facelift etc. I was actually in the market for an '01+ 330ci, but I found my 530 gem, only 38000km and in the best condition I have ever seen any used car. It is a Jap import, but it's fit as a fiddle and it has an aftermarket Arqray exhaust. (Nice tone!) Sadly, I can't find any photos of my old E34 kicking around my hard drives, but for your pleasure here are a couple of the E39. (Other beemers in the family: my dad drives an '01 740i, the very last of the E38s, spec'd to the teeth with niceities, sister drives an '03 3.0 X5. Same engine as mine, but very different torque curves.) Ciao, Sam
