One Man's Crusade Against The Personalised Plates Monopoly
94 325 replied to bravo's topic in General Discussion
Hi Guys... Yes, buying euro plates here in NZ is an ABSOLUTE TOTAL RIP OFF!!! We all know that... I bought my set from the UK, The German "D" style including the Euro numberplate surrounds for just under NZ$100. I had them on my car for months (and for 3years on my previous BMW)...then last Saturday morning, crusing down the Southern Motorway minding my own buisiness, some "idiot" with nothing better to do, in a sporty unmarked Commodore pulled me over ... I was given a ticket for $200.00 for using "Unauthorised" Plates on my car. And I had to take them off there an then - and then drive away with no plates on my car (until I got home and put on the old boring ones)... THIS IS BUREAUCRACY GONE MADD.... Surely the speed cameras can detect and recogise other number plate fonts? they have to for the very old black/silver ones, the first of the white/black ones, the latest style black/white ones... so they should just tell their computer to look at another font? It is NOT part of a WOF inspection to have to check the 'legallity' of the type of number plate. -
I now have a 2004 325Ci MSport with factory 17" alloys. I have just replaced the factory fitted Michelin Pilot Sport REAR tyres (for Dunlop SP Sport Maxx) and left the Michelin's on the front (as there is still good tread there). Now the car handles completly different, steering seems to be eratic and I am correcting it all the time: - Tramlining I believe is the problem. Was 'perfect' before fitting the 2 new tyres, now not afterwards. So, I am trying to get hold of new Sport Maxx tyres for the front (Dunlop NZ don't actually have any for a couple of weeks) - so atleast I will have 4 new tyres all the same brand. Rears are 245x40 fronts are 225x45. Will the new fronts fix the 'problem'? Is this common when having different brand tyres front/rear?? Any comment would be appreciated, thanks.

I am looking at replacing my tyres on my 94 325 Coupe. It has Michelin Pilot HX MXM (225x50 ZR 16"). I have been told not to 'waste' money and replace with an equivalent Michelin, but to use Yokohama C-drive or V550 (expensive) or Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3...plus many more... What do you guys use/recommend? Quiet is important as well as preformace/handling and good wear. cheers
