  1. around the 150k mark if the autobox hasnt been serviced it will soon die. this happened to me around the same mark.but its resonably cheap to get it fixed. now my autobox sits in the shed out the back. 325i 4sp autobox for sale anyone?? make sure you do the cam belt!!! i can't stress this enough. usually 1985 cars onwards have cam belts. if you dont know when it was last done. it will cost you about 2g+ on a rebuild if it snaps rather than 300 to replace. you do the math.

  17. this happens also when your foot is on the brake pedal. first the brakes have a usual bias of, 60% front, 40% back. you get more stoping power from the front brakes. when you put it in drive, the car wants to go forward but it can't. to compensate for this, the front rises. the power is transfered into a upward motion. therefore rasing the front and droping the back. i hope this is right.
  18. Note: Adjustment of the handbrake cable(s) on models with rear drum beakes should only be necessary when you renew a cable or detach it from the the rear brake assembly for some reason. Failure of the handbrake system to hold he the vehicle usually indicates worn brake shoes or a faulty self-adjusting mechhanism. 1 Raise the rear of the vechicle, and place it on axle stands. 2 Fully release the handbrake lever, then apply the brakes firmly several times with the foot brake pedal. 3 Pull the handbrake lever up five clicks. 4 Tighten or loosen the adjusting nuts by equal amounts until the rear brake shoes just begin to drag on the brake drum. You should feel the same amount of resistance at both wheels when you rotate them. 5 Release the handbrake lever, and verify that the wheels rotate freely. If they don't, re-adjust them. This is the proper way to do this.

  21. Note: The handbrake system is not self adjusting on models with rear disc brakes. Therefore the handbrake requires perodic adjustment to compensate for wear. It should be adjusted anytime either when cable, brake disc, brake pad or hand brake assembly is renewed for some reason. 1 Slowly apply handbake, and count the number of clicks at the lever. If the lever can be pulled up more than this adjust the handbrake as follows. 2 Peel back the handbrake lever boot(remove rear center console), and loosen the cable adjusting nut. 3 Loosen a single bolt in each rear wheel. (or take the whole thing off on both sides if nessary(raise rear of car and place on axle stands)). 4 Turn the hub so you can see the 'adjuster starwheel'(use flat head screwdriver) through the bolt hole. 5 Turn the adjuster - clockwise to expand the shoes, anti-clockwise to retract them. 6 Now apply the handbrake three to four times to stretch and seat the cables. Then slowly apply handbrake lever until the 5th click. Tighten the cable adjusting nuts by equal amounts until the rear brake pads touch the disc. Verify that both wheels have same amount of resistance. 7 Release the handbrake, and verify that both wheels rotate freely(little resistance is alright). 8 You should get your WOF now.
  22. 1/ go to the bmw dealer and get a bmw windscreen. these are claimed to be(by bmw) DESIGNED FOR BMW CAR'S(no sh*t) and claim to have been made with special stuff from normal. there's usually some paper with writing on it in store about why its so special. why i recomend: they cost more and you dont have to pay for them. check first that they will do insurance jobs before hand. 2/hand brake see maintance for my post.
