  1. Hey guys,

Well after getting all excited about getting some new rubber on the E34, turns out the key to get the locking nuts off is missing. sh*t..

I think its just a standard BMW one, (not some epic custom jobbie you can get) so I dont think it should be to much of a hassle to get a new one. Would tyre shops have a selection of different keys? Any ideas where the best place is to get one? BMW dealership? (for a quillion dollars)

    Looks something like this: http://socalmotorsport.com/images/eBay/bmwwheellocksx5.jpg

Thanks in advance, I feel like a tool

  2. Not long to wait Simon! Just need to give it a clean, and Ill throw some up! Looks pretty awesome though. Yeah I thought you were running a ton of camber just by looking at the tyre wear! hahaha. What are the pros/cons for running such camber apart from uneven tyre wear? Might be an option.. How would you go about it? Just goto a suspension place and ask them to do it?

e38king, I think you're right, there is definitely something in the guard. I thought it was just double skinned. I dont like the idea of heating it up cause it might wreck the paint.

Hey Nick - still waiting on some pics mate ;)

My 540 is lowered on Bilstein Sports and H&R's and I run a LOT of negative camber at the back. Wheels look like this from the rear if you get what I mean / \

I'll try and find a pic to show you - they never rubbed for me that way

  3. Hey guys,

Ive put on some new rims on the E34, simons* old Beyrens. Ive found the rear tyres (18x9.5) rub the inner guard when I have weight in the back, or any sort of big dip in the road where the suspension gets compressed. A friend has a guard roller which we tried, but the inner lip is to thick to bend, and I dont wanna do any major damage to the guard/paint. Have any of you guys had to do this on your E34? Could you recommened any good options I have? panelbeater etc.

    Thanks,

    Nick

  4. Mr Devine, just to let you know I dropped into Centerline suspension to have a look at my shimmy. These guys know their stuff! Chris knew it would be one of 3 or 4 things. fortunately for me it was just the apes at firestone who balanced to two front wheels wrong when they put on my wheels (45 and 50 grams on either wheel!). He got them to a perfect balance either side and solved my shimmy problem.

Hes done a lot of E34's so knows where to look. I would highly recommend checking him out, top guy too.

  5. Took the wife's E34 540i in for new front tyres recently. Because they were bald (don't know how they passed a warrant) and I was suspicious of a slight front end shimmy and steering slop which turned out to be worn control arm bushings. Picked up a set from Euro Italian and wow what a difference, steering slop gone. The tyres are Accellera (not top end, but the reviews online were OK).

However after a wheel alignment it still has the infamous shimmy at 85kmh+. I would have thought the replaced bushings would have done the trick. I wonder though if the tyre shop isn't so flash on the balance and alignment front, as it still pulls to the left.

I'm going to take it back on Monday and ask them to have another go, but there might be another place someone can recommend? We're in the Ellerslie area, somewhere local or downtown would be great.

    Ace. Mr D.

I have exactly the same problem! Had some new mags fitted on the weekend, and yeap had them balanced at firestone, then as soon as I hit around 90k the shimmy comes, and it pulls to the left! haha. Let me know if you sus it out, its starting to frustrate me!

  6. Hey guys, as the title suggests Im after a new set of front and rear rotors and pads for my E34 540i. Dont really know who to ask to help source these so if anyone has had any good experience with a company please let me know. They dont need to be genuine BMW, just decent quality.

    Cheers,

    Nick

  7. Yeah I think so the guy was so stoked.

He will show up in the forum soon.

Best car buyer I've ever dealt with actually.

I work with the guy, he was lusting over it for days! Saw it in the flesh today and it looks better than in the pictures! Hes really stoaked with it too, awesome to have another E34 parked outside work haha.

  8. Yeah I figured if Im going v8, I may as well go all out and get a 4 litre, knowing me Id always kick myself if I bought a 535 wondering what a 540 would be like and if Id made the right choice etc.

Cheers for the welcome guys, Im in no rush to buy one as Ill just wait for something nice to come by. In your guys experience how many 540i's have you seen with the old nikasil blocks? I know the question has probably been put to death on the forum but just curious how many are still out there, and were never replaced when there was the recall.

Does NZ fuel affect the old nikasil block?

    Cheers,

    Nick

  9. Hey guys,

Basically Ive been looking for a nice 540 for a long time, dealerships have proved fruitless (they just dont seem to know what they're talking about..), so a friend of mine has suggested I try this forum. I searched and found some amazing examples, though the threads are a few months old now.

Basically if you know someone trying to sell a e34 540i send them my way! Also looking forward to being part of an active local bimmer forum!

    Much appreciated,

    Nick
