  1. That makes three of us When I get a spare second I will start a thread for you all to tag along with my inactivity rot62, what are you doing for a pedal box? Retrofit OEM stuff or something like a Wilwood Twin master setup?
  2. If you want some rough measurements I have a spare E30 M42 Sump setup kicking around.
  3. Ah ok that sounds alright then. Ohh your going to get this cert'd. Fair enough then gotta keep the engineers happy. Only engineer I have to keep happy is myself...and I'm not even qualified
  4. The better alternative is to take out your hammer nd get stuck into the firewall. Even in my E30 I have beat on the firewall, But I want to move the lil M42 back ~95mm for weight distribution Keep up the good work, you are making solid progress.
  5. Love it, cant wait for you to post a video of that ultra lumpy idle
  6. Great project, good to hear its still kicking. Keep at it
  7. This looks like a great project. I am another voting for carbs on the M44. Keep up the good work.
  8. Here's wht i did on the race car: E30 roof section: Initial Fit: After some tweaking to get the curves happening longitudinally and across the front edge: The panel was shaped and stitch welded in. We then sealed it with liquid metal (Devcon 2 Pac) Then some filler From Inside: And the best picture I have of the finished product: Definitely not the easiest way, but retains the most strength and didn't weigh too much (single layer of sheet metal)
  9. **awaits back pay** then I'll go buy me some koni's!
  10. har har har And Henry I only just remembered the comment I wanted to make regarding your coilovers. (in the process of finishing off reading the thread i forgot it!) I gather you re now happy with how they are, but regarding the inserts. GC doesn't actually shorten E30 inserts. What they have done is found a VW insert that is 5" shorter in the body length, hence the spacer you get. This allows you to seriously lower your E30, and by cutting your strut tubes and spacer to suit you still maintain a decent mount of shock travel. Some people are cutting up to 3" out of their strut tubes! Because it is a VW insert, GC get them custom valved for E30/your chosen spring rates. I myself am currently using vb-vk commodore inserts in the front of the race car. These are 30mm shorter in the body length and obviously valved much stiffer (for the heavier commodore). I only have plain gas inserts (cheap as), but even with the commodore valving they are under damped (I'm runnign 300lbs/in springs in the front). I will eventually be getting the custom inserts off GC and cutting my strut tubes shorter still as I only have around 75mm travel (- bump stop length) at my current ride height and I want to go lower. So there you are, some more informations
  11. Great thread here henry, it's great to see people having such success with good quality products. Whats the go with watching your videos? I used your search term but all that came up for me was 318iS's racing round Summit Point in America. Keep at it :thumb:
  12. Thanks for the warm welcome guys. And yup same username on all the forums, makes life easy. I got nothing to hide The roady is pretty good but far from perfect, it has been a long hard slog...battling the typical electrical bugs at the moment. Central Locking is a bit tempermental and had an alternator die a couple of weeks ago. I have some Simmons B45's tucked up under the house awaiting a coat of paint and some wider outer lips, but other than the wheels I just want to tidy the road car up more. Oh and the roof racks...gotta have somewhere to put the bike. The race car is certainly fun. Its great being faster round the tracks than guys spending more money on tyres than I have the whole car. Currently the straights are whats holding me back on track, even stripped out 95hp has trouble getting an E30 to accelerate
  13. Gday Guys, e30guydownunder (Chris) checking in here. I'm from Australia in case you didn't pickup. I currently have 2 E30's in my possession. A 1990 318iS as a daily: It steadily gets mods, but the money spent on it severely reduced when i picked up this: The car started life as a 1987 325i and came to me as a rolling shell. I put the spare 318iS mechanicls I had lying around in it, replaced the rusty bonnet and boot with the black ones I had and sprayed the roof black to match after I deleted the sunroof. Caged it out and put some suspension in it. So now it is the only 1987 318iS in existence I'm fairly certain. I'm currently in the process of turboing the baby M42 and will be rebuilding it ready for a diet of much boost and E85. I finally joined the forum after seeing westy's bastard child "Alice". The amount of effort he is putting into that car is insane and I think the result will be very much worth it. A modern, creature comforts E30, can't go wrong. Anyway thats the intro, I'll have a plod around and start my project thread in due time
